I think it's because they're not teaching you 20 ways to kill someone in 1 Kempo like karate. They teach you how to take someone to the ground and immobilize them. Also because technically they're not allowed to strike with their hands or their feet unless a weapon is involved. That would be my guess.

Roaring That's why i preferred and practiced this martial art 20 yrs ago. I worked with troubled teens that would sometimes need to be restrained without harm. It helped me a lot with the more impulsively aggressive students. -
Linda Joy I probably would have preferred it as well.
