Why do people cover their mouth when they burp or yawn but not when they talk or laugh?
When you talk I can still smell your breath, also you sometimes spit when you talk and with laughing it's possible to laugh with your mouth wide open so therefore I can still see inside your mouth.

2/26/2025, actually, people had to cover their mouths when Covid was hitting hard. 😷

Yawning and burping are considered rude, so covering the mouth is for politeness, it has noting to do with smelly breath.
