You want a distinct name that is different but not going to get your kids ass kicked. Personally I like two syllable names that start with vowels for girls. One syllable names for guys that start with harder consinents such as Cs.

For a baby? Wow. I once knew a boy called Rowan, and that was gorgeous, but you really have to be able to pull off something like that. For a girl I like Irene, which was my great-Gran's name. For a boy, less ambitious than Rowan, perhaps Jamie? That can always be shortened to James if he grows up not to like it.
