They don't know, that's what faith is- belief in something that cannot be proved. I don't think anything in the bible has been proved to be true beyond any doubt, yet millions believe it to be so. There have been a few discoveries of archaelogical sites etc, but nothing concrete. I don't think all Christians believe the entire bible is the exact word of god though, I know a few that don't.

We know because of faith and because God's Word, the Bible, is divinely inspired. We also know because life has meaning. Without meaning, then we wouldn't be here. I can explain more, if necessary. :0)

Having a philosophical bent, I have to begin my answer with 'how does anyone "know" anything?' Everything you think you know is based on your experiences, logic, deduction, imagination and the testimony of sources you trust. (clearly an oversimplification for brevity...) Groups like "The Jesus Seminar" appear to decide what they believe and discount the rest of the Bible. The Latter Day Saints accept the Bible only insofar as it is interpreted by their prophets and their other scriptures. It appears to me The Watchtower Bible and Tract Society (Jehovah's Witnesses) "reasoned together" what must be true and interpret the Bible according to their reasoning. Many claiming the moniker "Christian" have dramatically differing opinion of the veracity, fallibility and inspiration of the Bible. Typically, Christians who take the study of such things seriously look at the various historical records, the quality of the evidence, facts, records, recorded experiences of others and come to the conclusion that the Bible is the trustworthy Word of God. Obviously others differ as to the conclusion and the quality of the evidence.

We know because we can have confidence in the many courageous people that God has used to pass His Word, the Bible down to us over thousands of years. The guardians of the earliest Bible texts carefully preserved the original scrolls and made numerous copies of them. The copying of the text was done with extreme care by highly trained scribes. Take for instance, the Masoretes, who copied the Hebrew Scriptures or “Old Testament” between the sixth and tenth centuries C.E. They would go as far as even counting the letters in the text so as to avoid errors. That was their practice. This kind of meticulous copying helped to ensure both the accuracy of the text and the very survival of the Bible itself. Because they dont know any better. Because they just suck up words without even thinking or questioning what they read. oh, the word of God. because the bible says it is the word of God. we know it isnt true. it is written by many different people. all the writing points toward the Living God, Jehovah/Yahweh. The effort of producing the bible is blessed by Jehovah/Yahweh. The translation needs some adjustment, like the word God, for instance. It just covers over the many beautiful meanings that could be easy printed on the page instead.

There are many possible "Gospels" not included in the Bible ..the Church "High Heid Yins" got together and decided what to include .. I want to say at Nicenae (???)but I better check my facts ... anyway, the Bible might have been very different. From memory the earliest book included was written some 40 yeasr after Jesus died .. so we gotta wonder how accurate it is, no? They usually compare the 4 Gospels with each other and postulate that there is a "missing" one referred to as Q .. mmm interesting ..got some interesting books about it somewhere (shuffles off, mumbling...)

hate to tell you but the church where a bunch of whack jobs them selves...let me tell you how the bible came to be a bunch of assholes who thought they where above every one else sat in a basment deciding wich scriptures where fit to be read to the people and wich weren't then compiled what is essentaly propiganda in to a fine tome and spounted it to the people what happened to the other scriptures? some where locked away deemed unfitto be seen by the eyes of peasents and others burned so that we may never look apon thier words.

Well, first are you speaking of the old testament or new. I'm assuming the new testament since that is the part that the church set criteria to determine which book was truly inspired by God. The Jews as well as the church believe the Old testament to be inspired by God The Old and New Testaments were written by 40 different authors, located in Asia, Africa and Europe, over a 1600-year time span. the Bible contains a massive amount of prophecies which later were fulfilled in detail. For example, various Old Testament prophets gave over 300 specific prophecies about the coming Messiah (God's one and only Son who would die for the sins of the world), ie. where He would be born, where He would grow up, etc. These prophecies were perfectly fulfilled by Jesus Christ hundreds of years later. Examples of wack jobs from what I've seen usually don't create a 1,600 year work. It's usually a "jones town massacre, David Koresh, Heaven's gate scenario. Or even Joseph Smith, Jr. "founder of the Mormons."

Since you say church, I assume you are talking about Christianity. One way to tell is the continuity from beginning to end. The Bible is basically the story of Jesus' family from beginning to end. The early parts are the story of his family, written thousands of years before his birth. In the middle, there are prophecies about him, which He fulfilled. They tell specific details about him, including from which branch of Abraham's descendants He would come and very specific details of His death, all written a very long time before His birth. Here is one, from Isaiah 53, which was written hundreds of years before the birth of Christ. 2 He grew up before him like a tender shoot, and like a root out of dry ground. He had no beauty or majesty to attract us to him, nothing in his appearance that we should desire him. 3 He was despised and rejected by men, a man of sorrows, and familiar with suffering. Like one from whom men hide their faces he was despised, and we esteemed him not. 4 Surely he took up our infirmities and carried our sorrows, yet we considered him stricken by God, smitten by him, and afflicted. 5 But he was pierced for our transgressions, he was crushed for our iniquities; the punishment that brought us peace was upon him, and by his wounds we are healed. 6 We all, like sheep, have gone astray, each of us has turned to his own way; and the LORD has laid on him the iniquity of us all. 7 He was oppressed and afflicted, yet he did not open his mouth; he was led like a lamb to the slaughter, and as a sheep before her shearers is silent, so he did not open his mouth. 8 By oppression [a] and judgment he was taken away. Now how did Isaiah, who lived hundreds of years before Christs birth, know that Christ would be "pierced" and buried in a rich man's grave (Joseph of Arimithea) before being raised? How did he know that Christ would stand silent before Pilate and Herod and offer no word in His defense? How did he know Christ would be despised; unless God allowed him to see a vision of the future? And before you say "he couldn't know, therefore it must have been written after Christ, remember that Christ repeatedly quotes Isaiah. He quotes Isaiah in a way that lets you know He expects His audience to be familiar with the words of Isaiah. Therefore, logically, Isaiah was written long before the birth of Christ and was familiar to everyone He was speaking to.

It wasn't divinely inspired. It was strategically written by a group of people. They were pretty smart actually. Look at what has become of it today.

They need something to lean on, and make sense of life. It's hard to believe that such a tradition might not actually be teh word of god, but the result of years of human control and power shifting into one book of how a life should be lived while using the fear of a hell as the source of control. Kind of like a robber with an unloaded gun.

But when they say that some naive people will believe it thinking God was a super human and he wrote the whole thing in few days etc. Once they say that, nobody will question them. As simple as that. Then they can preach everything in that book is true and not questionable too. I have a great business and nobody questions.

When Christians say the bible is the “word of God”, how do they know? Good question. The people of ancient Israel were presented with the same problem. How do we know that what this guy, who claims to be a prophet, really speaks for God when he says, “Thus sayeth the word of the Lord”? Proofs were required. How does one make such a proof? By foretelling in advance things that will happen. Usually there are short term and long term prophecies. If a supposed prophet made a prediction that did not come true, then you knew he did not speak for the Lord. What is the penalty for falsely saying “thus sayeth the word of the Lord?” You got killed. Make one wrong prediction and you die, and your words are disregarded. Not 19 out of 20 right. 100% of the time correct. If we can see that predictions, such as how long Israel would be in bondage to Babylon (70 years exactly) became true, then it would follow that the other predictions by that same person could be relied on. Others have shown how the bible contain information with regard to scientific phenomenon that were unknown in ancient time. The bible teaches that in one moment of creation, god made all things out of nothing. Nothing became everything. Science has changed its theories to explain how everything came into being. We now have the Big Bang theory, in which, at first there was nothing, no time, no space, no matter, and then it exploded. And what was nothing, became everything. The bible talks about the earth being hung on nothing. We have representations of the number pi accurate to within one part in a thousand. We have predictions of fountains in the oceans, discovered in the 1970’s (black smokers) and pathways in the seas, (Gulf Stream discovered in the late 1700’s)

8-18-2017 If you don't believe in God, then of course you don't believe the bible is His word. There is no point in discussing it because it is nonsense by definition. I get a HUGE kick out of all this.......'word of God"? well, um, perhaps.....but let's not forget the Council of NIcea; in the 4th century, when a bunch of bishops or something got together TO DECIDE WHICH BOOKS WERE TO BE IN THE BIBLE AS WE KNOW IT NOW......... The Gospel of Thomas was kicked out.......why I have no idea.....so when you say 'word of God' you really mean 'word of God per MAN"S opinion".........we will never know, EVER what other books could have been a part of the bible we know today.. I detest all organized religion, as they are all MAN MADE........none of them follow what's taught in the bible,,,,,,,,,well, perhaps the Jewish people; they seem to have gotten it right. the other denominations? Easy, Bible prophecies contain hundreds of prophecies relating to past nations, futuristic nations, Jews in exile, Israel reborn, cities, catastrophic events, pandemics, mandates, the mark of the beast to make way for the NWO, rumors of wars and many more. If skeptics cannot understand Bible prophecy, they are blind. Acts 26:18 "to open their eyes, so that they may turn from darkness to light and from the power of Satan to God, that they may receive forgiveness of sins and a place among those who are sanctified by faith in Me."

The Bible is a historical document, and as such we only need to look into what it says about itself. When Archaeologist come across some document from some past decade, and that document says something like; this is the writings of/ or diary of so and so, do they accept that statement as fact? or say we don't have any proof? In the Bible there are several scriptures that state that is the author of the Bible is God. 1st “Prophecy was at no time brought by man’s will, but men spoke from God as they were moved by holy spirit.”2 Peter 1:21 NWT 2ed “When you received God’s word, which you heard from us, you accepted it not as the word of men but, just as it truthfully is, as the word of God.”1 Thessalonians 2:13 NWT American Standard Version Exodus 24:4 "And Moses wrote all the words of Jehovah, Byington says at Exodus 24:4 "And Moses wrote down all Jehovah’s words.
