Why are people so ignorant when it comes to Canada's participation in wars and peace keeping etc? Do they honestly think all we do is drink beer and huddle in igloos?

It's not as advertised as other news. The only reason I know about Canada's efforts is because I heard about it and read a little on it. Though I have never seen anything about Canada on the news.

Skeeter I live close enough to Canada to understand what you are saying. This American knows why you wear poppies .And the fields in Flanders. But About the beer drinking. If it was not for the fact that Canada makes the best beer in the world that myth would not exist. I love my Labatt blue!

Due to the division of Canadians insofar as war, not unlike here in the U.S., Canadian politicians decided to keep much of their activity and support of the U.S. insofar a Iraq and Afghanistan on the QT. Also, your powers-that-be may have wanted to protect its citizens from terrorist retaliation that they were not prepared to handle, such as occurred in Britain, Spain, Italy et.al., for their open support. I'm sure Canada is much more prepared today. When Secretary Colin Powell spoke of the "Coalition of the Willing", he indicated that 15 nations were supportive, but that they did not wish to be identified. Although, never officially identified as such, nor the others, I believe Canada was among the 15. In many ways, Canada has been hugely supportive of its neighbor, the U.S., but quietly so...by their choice. The leftist media that doesn't like U.S. support of any kind, are more than willing to cooperate in keeping U.S. citizens ignorant of yours and others' support.

You might have stopped your question after the first 5 words! As an American, I don't know why so many Americans are so ignorant about current events or WW1, WW2, & Korea. To be a little fair, it's not like there's a lot of overly-dramatic news from Afghanistan now.

No. Living here in Alaska, Ido appreciate Canada and what they do for us. We work together good and not like the rest of the lower 48 states. We here in Alaska appreciate Canada and the good people of Canada.

Beats me. Canada was a founding member of NATO and a signatory with the U.S. for NORAD. Canada was, and still is, an important part of north American air defense and is quite capable at their role. And they're down right cool neighbors, too!

Well...... I know you drink beer but I haven't heard about the igloos. LOL I know Canada and Canadians were active in WWII. Some of the early American participants joined the fighting by going to Canada since the US wasn't involved yet. I am not, however, knowledgeable about Canada's military history and involvement. It must not be promoted. And, after reading some of the other people's answers, I can see why.

No,. I live in Alaska and I appreciate all that Canada does for us. But people in the lower 48 treat us here in Alaska as bad as they treat the people of Canada. All you can do is ignore them as we do.

What people are you talking about? Surely you aren't talking about Americans? We know you are our neighbors and close allies and that you have good lives, not just sitting around drinking beer and trying to stay warm. I'm an American and that's my opinion about Canadians.

Well, for whatever reason, Canadas participation in anything is really kept on the down low. In reading an in depth couple of books about WW2 Pacific, I may have read something about Canada's participation, but I don't remember. And all throughout my history class last year, not one thing was mentioned about the Canadians. It's just that your guys' participation is kept on the downlow for whatever reason.
