Knowing that the primary definition of "gay" in current dictionaries is "homosexual," I would wonder exactly what you were trying to say. If you were trying to use "gay" as a word for "stupid" or "dumb," I would be very disappointed at this display of prejudice. If however, you meant "how carefree and light," there are much better words to use to get this across. +1

The same thing Wide Awake Phoenix said. If you're meaning is that something is dumb or stupid, I would be really annoyed at such a thoughtless use of prejudice.

Your response to a dude saying, "Dude! I just made out with this other dude behind the gas station!"
-
I would just think... "how lame". That is my definition of 'gay' when used in this manner. I do not think of homosexual or find it offensive, as I consider it to be an entirely different usage.

My grandmother using the older, proper definition of gay. Carefree and happy. Nothing made her happier than the bright gay flowers in her garden.

I would think that you're uneducated and ignorant.

I wouldn't be friends with someone who says that.

Hillary Duff.
-
I think "why do people say that". I am guilty too and when I do it I feel bad.
-
I would say, you are describing something that is happy, and light-hearted. Like a country fair or parade. I don't try to read everything into discriminatory remarks unless you really intended it to be so.

My daughter, she always calls her teachers that behind their back.It is just a matter of expression for her!Just like 'cool'!

Nothing... Because I dont know you. But for my own head, as a direct result, Clay Aiken and Carsen Cressley dressing Clay and his baby in matching pink polo shirts with tennis sweaters draped over their shoulders... would naturally come to mind. But thats just me.

The first thing I'd think of is "How annoying/stupid" etc, because of the slang term the word has found in society. The second thing I think of is the more preferable adjective that something is 'delightful' etc. Saying something is 'gay' is really like saying something highly appealing is 'cool,' the only thing is that, what with the sensitive background of sexual orientation, calling a negative situation 'gay' can be viewed as a sexist term. But really, Homosexual's made it their word in the 20th century, and apparently the word 'gay' had sexual connotations "as early as 1637" according to the online etymology dictionary. The word 'gay' in the dictionary now refers to homosexuals. So I see the word 'gay' as their's, and it shouldn't really be used as a slang word for negative things (especially if it is offensive to people)- we have other words for that. My gay friends don't give a damn whether the word is used to describe a negative thing or not, they say it's 'just popular culture slang'. But out of respect to those who find it offensive, I don't use it, plus I find it stupid-sounding anyway, I prefer to use it for it's original term or to refer to homosexuals.

Pink lace and frills. Musicals. You spelled it wrong (ghey). In that exact order. Well, I'm just being honest...

Gay could mean: happy, homo, or lame... I guess it really just depends when you said it and to what.

I'd say, Oh come on, think of a better insult! "gay" is so old!

It's actually very interesting how the word "gay has yet again morphed into something that doesn't resemble what it was to begin with. Initially it meant "happy" then it became "homosexual". Now it is used to denote something stupid. Honestly if you told me something was "gay" I'd assume you meant stupid, foolish or not making sense. As it is not applied to a human but a physical object or situation, homosexuality simply wouldn't come to mind.

How Stupid.....we have been using that word soo much describing how feminine or stupid something is we dont notice people's feelings. It's like if they're gay then they think we are calling them stupid. my very best guy friend is gay, even though he doesn't get angry about this he still gets annoyed that people use it in the wrong context.

I would think something happened that was a bummer in a sort of way. For example, then playing beer pong and on the last cup they bounce it off the wall into the cup or while playing mario kart and some green shell comes out of no where and you lose. While I have nothing against people who are gay, the word in the sense of how it is used in those two examples I have given has become a part of my vocabulary.

I think someone said this was generational, and I think that's true...I was a high school teacher, and the kids were always throwing around the phrases "how gay" or "that's so gay"...and also "that's lame"... -they seemed to think that these adjectives didn't refer to anyone, that 'just because everybody else does it' that was okay. However, my *literally* lame friend (has CP) really feels hurt and offended by 'lame' and I don't enjoy 'gay' being used for negative, nasty or stupid things. Often, they were talking about particularly heterosexual things, so I tried to open their minds by saying: "Don't you mean: 'How straight'?"
