Hammerheads are safe for divers to be around, as are many other small sharks. Those Great Whites are really mean bastards, though.

Of the 360+ species of sharks, the vast majority aren't dangerous to humans. When you look at the numbers, even the dangerous species don't account for a real dent in the human population. In fact, while there may be 2-3 fatalities in a year, we're busy killing millions of sharks for mostly no good reason. You definately want to be careful around a Great White, Tiger or Bull shark.

Now how about pool sharks for not dangerous? Every other shark will kill you as good as look at you, I think. A pool shark won't if you are good for your bet :-P

Whale sharks are not dangerous to humans as they don't eat meat... they are actually quiet friendly and your even able to go on swiming tours along side them in Perth, Australia :o)

what is the subject of such danger you ask of, if you are trying to save the fish then realize this, my stomach is a greater threat than sharks. but if the subject is human danger than i would say all of them that stay in the ocean and out of urban areas.

The largest shark, the whale shark, actually eats tiny plankton. Many times a diver can come right in and hitch a ride. :)

Generally sharks under 6 foot (2 metres) are not considered a threat to human life. However they can give you a nasty nip. A shark embryo once bite an over - zealous scientist when it as still in utero. Mind you I can't say as I blame it, he'd stuffed a plastic drain - pipe down the mother's gullet to enable him to have a good feel. The baby obviously took exception to this uninvited intrusion. To clarify everyone else's brilliant answers, the three sharks that you are 100% safe from are the huge filter - feeders: the enormous Whale Shark, the Baskng Shark and the Megamouth. None of these would hurt a water - flea.

thats like saying that a cat is dangerus, no their not. sharks only ever bite in order to find out what you are, the best way to avoid being bitten is to not flail and kick up all the water around you, thereby enabling the hsark to see that you are not a potentail food sourse or something to fear. sharks are really an amazing creature, and as there were only 4 deaths assosiated with sharks in 2006 i'd say they were a rather safe animal you are more likely to be killed by a vending mechine than by a shark

Well, let's see. There are between 375 and 475 types of sharks in rivers, seas and oceans. Of these species, 80% are considered not harmful to humans due to the facts that they are either too small, they find us too bony or they are plankton eaters. Of the 20% dangerous species of sharks, only 39 shark species have been involved in shark attacks on humans (both provoked and unprovoked) and recorded since the mid 1500's, according to the ISAF (International Shark Attack File). Only 10 species are known to be involved in shark attacks on humans more often than others and the top three are: Great White shark, the Tiger shark and the Bull shark.
