Why are there only 7 days a week and not a round number
We divide years by months, and days. Why not have a different name for each day of the year?

That is because the Babylonian calendar (probably based on much older observations) is based on the lunar quarter cycles, roughly four seven-day periods until the next "new" moon. Think about it, people really didn't have much else to do every night except look at the lights in the sky and start trying to find patterns.

Beat Covid, Avoid Republicans The Babylonian Calender was in used 700 years before Christ. The current calender is the Gregorian Calender.
