Oh boy did she try! The things I make best are the ones I just made up. I have the secret recipe for my mom's lasagna, but when I make it, it just does not turn out the same :(
-
Mum and Dad both taught me. Dad in particular taught me the Bloke's Art of the BBQ...
-
Some things yo...
-
Bone basic stuff -- even less. I learned to cook by trial and error, was a dishwasher at a restaurant for a few months so observed, and a recipe book or two. Found the best way to learn was to order take out, take it home to taste, see, and smell, then try to recreate as best you can. Now I'm a better cook then my mom can dream to be.
-
Self taught, with some help from the neighbors.
-
a bit of them and myself. They started me. and then school helped out too
-
Not really. If I hadn't gone through home economics in junior high school, I wouldn't even be able to boil water.
-
No not really. I taught myself mostly. They did certain things, I remember I grew up in the late 90's and I was like, "I'm so against male and female roles" so I tried to back out of cooking whenever possible. :p
-
nope, i taught myself.
-
Yes, I learned how to cook from my mom, dad, stepmom and grandmothers. All had their own distinct style and I learned a lot. Now I experiment on my own and have come up with some great recipes. But I couldn't have done it without the diverse teaching that I got.
-
My mother showed me one or two things. I learned mostly on my own.
-
I taught myself how to crack open a mean can of Spaghetti Os, heat and listen to this......the secret is....... to plop on top of some real good 12 grain bread.
-
No, but I really do enjoy experimenting. I basically just cook fish/shellfish meals for my g/f,(she's a pescatarian) but on my own, the world is my oyster. Thank God my dog and I will eat anything:)
-
my mom doesnt even cook now...
-
Nope. We lived on a farm and I learned how to make hot cereal, pancakes and french toast while my folks were out doing morning chores. I followed directions and receipes. I learned more when I was out of school and not yet married and learned a whole lot more when I was a single parent for 5 years.
-
My mom taught me basics and i figured a lot out from that and by cooking with recipes and then messing with them. I love to cook.
-
yes because your first school was home and your first teachers are your parents
-
I taught myself how to cook.
-
My Mom taught me everything I know :)
-
My mom was a home ec teacher. She taught me everything a man should know to be self sufficient.
-
My mom told me how to fry mushrooms when I was in 5th grade (yeah, you'd think I'd be smart enough to figure it out on my own), but that's about it. The rest I learned myself.
-
no, i learned by myself and I prefer it that way cause than its a better accomplishment.
-
I always ask or sometimes observe my mother if she is cooking one of my favorite foods. In that way, I can cook anytime on my own. If there are special occassions, then I try to help and at the same time use the opportunity to learn some delicacies. Although, there is a year when I really did not cook at all and I almost forgot how to cook some of my favorite dishes. It takes a while to get back to the routine and actually make some food that taste well enough to eat. :D
-
my dad taught me to cook because it was just me my three brothers and him.
-
No
-
Not really, the cook book did. Neither one of my parents like cooking that much! : )

-
No, the cook taught me to cook :)
-
No ...I learnt from trial and error :-) !
-
Not really we were told if you don't make it you don't eat... Funny enough those first couple of meals cause some blockage and then leakage.
-
My parents belonged to a generation that believed the only thing kids needed was water to grow. They were not big on instruction.
-
No. When I was a teenager I enjoyed reading cookbooks. That's how I learned.
-
50/50. Grandparents & other family was involved as well.
-

Mom tried, but I proved to be totally inept in the kitchen. In the garage, however, Dad had much success teaching me how to fix things with motors.
-
Not really cook, but my mother taught me how to bake. I am the only vegetarian in my immediate family. Mostly I eat raw foods.

Yes, they told me to watch and the rest of my cooking experiences have been trial and error.
-

-
No, i learned by guessing, and still learning.
-
Yep. Both parents worked and my mom taught me and the rest the basics. My dad was a great camping and outdoors cook, so he was my salvation in bachelorhood. Thanks, folks.
-
no, i/ve learned by watchin
-
sort of, I learned by watching my mom
-
My dad was a really good cook and he showed me a few things, but he didn't actually enjoy cooking much. He learned it when he was young out of necessity apparently, but he never had much desire to impart to me his secrets and I never wanted to learn so, that worked out good lol.
-
Yup, my mom taught me som,e stuff, and now I know how to make eggs :D lol
-
Some things my mother taught me. I learned mostly from friends moms... I was forever adopting my friends mothers... and their recipes!
-
My mom did, but I didn't want to listen and not I regret it.
-
I learned some from my mother, or maybe I should say I learned my love of cooking from her, but I quickly developed my own abilities and learned from other sources I sought out. I have always been interested in learning to be better and better at it.
-
doesn't take a genius to boil an egg or make a cup of noodles. i know, it's very sad
-
my grandmother did, we made bread together, and pies and cookies and all our big family meals, thanksgiving, easter, christmas. she was wonderful and patient
-
my folks gave me baking recipes and such, but I didn't learn to cook until I worked in a kitchen. I learned a lot about cooking there.
-
Nope. "Boys don't cook." My ex-wife taught me, though, and I think I turned out OK.
-
My mom would let me watch her cook, but didn't want me making a "mess in HER kitchen." Now it's my kitchen and I can make as much mess as I want. I'm having a great time learning. I usually consult several cookbooks for a recipe, get a consensus of ingredients and instructions and sometimes make my own variations.
-
Yupe she taught me everything I know she even paid for me to go to a pravite cooking college
-
yes,my dad.
-
no
-
No, I learned how by trial, error, and necessity after leaving home.

No, i learned by experimenting. I'm 58 and just learned a better way to make hash browns. Fry the onions first till brown in the bacon grease, that makes them much better.
-
No, but they taught my s/o how to cook, since I'm always the one working for about 12 to 15 hours a day and since my s/o does not work, then I would expect some good homemade cooking by her when I come home from work.
-
Yes. I was one of 4 boys. We not only leaarned to cook from our Mother but we learned to do all the household chores. We also planted the garden, harvested the vegetables, prepared them and canned them for winter. We raised our own chickens and killed, dressed and froze them. And we did that during grade school and still played football, walked to school, participated in Boy Scouts and helped our Father when he needed a helper in his Carpentry Work. When I was in High School my Mother operated a small Resturant and we all got to be pretty good short order cooks too.
-
Yes my late Mom
