According to the July 31, 2006 issue of Sports Illustrated, the longest game was a 26-inning tie between the Brooklyn Dodgers and the Boston Braves in 1920. That's MLB. The longest game in pro baseball took place in 1981. It was a Triple A game that lasted 33 innings. davo - a 26 inning game on July 27th between the Brooklyn Cyclones and the Oneonta Tigers began at 12:03 and ended at 6:43 when the Tigers scored 5 runs in the 26th. In the 20th, one of the Brooklyn outfielders joked that he was available to pitch and his manager took him up on it a few innings later. That game was over six-and-a-half hours, so yea, I bet the 33 inning was at least 5 hours long. (For anyone unfamiliar with baseball, innings are determined by outs, not time, so a 33-inning game could, theoretically, take less time than one with 26 innings. Just a guess, though - it's out of my league, so to speak.

Longest 9-inning game in MLB history- August 21, 2006: The Yankees defeat the Red Sox, 2-1, at Fenway Park, completing a five-game sweep of the Red Sox in the first five game series between the teams in 33 years. Evoking memories of 1978's "Boston Massacre," the Yankees outscore the Red Sox 49-26 and pushed their division lead to 6.5 games over the second place Red Sox, leading Boston Globe columnist Dan Shaughnessy to call it the "Son of Massacre" and others to dub the series, "The Second Boston Massacre". The second game of the series, the back end of a day-night doubleheader, took 4 hours and 45 minutes to complete making it the longest 9-inning game in major league baseball history.
