A woman scorned? I suppose running over it does not destroy it, but all the same :)

Destroying a diamond is relatively easy, it will burn in an oxygen atmosphere with no trouble. It can be crushed as many poor quality stones are, to produce polishing powder. As far as a "diamond is forever" this is not true because diamond is the high pressure/high temperature form of carbon and it will (given enough time) revert to the normal pressure variety which is graphite. However, regarding the human life-span and the time a diamond takes to revert to graphite it might as well be for ever...lol.

The only thing that can destroy it is the same thing that created it. Extreme heat and pressure

A blowtorch could do one in nicely. Diamonds burn at around 800F and your average propane/butane blowtorch will get temps of 1600F quite easily.
-
A 50 ton press should do the job quite nicely. : )

A badly designed ring ;)

The diamond can be split by a single, well calculated blow of a hammer to a pointed tool, which is quick, but risky. Alternatively, it can be cut with a diamond saw, which is a more reliable but tedious procedure. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Diamond
