  • Always firm. A wimpy handshake gives me a feeling that the person I'm shaking hands with looks down on me or thinks that my hands are dirty.
  • firm without being over the top ... nothing worse than shaking hands with a limp piece of celery
  • I like a firm handshake. A wimpy handshake is difficult to handle.
  • I have a very firm handshake. Wimpy handshakes freak me out like clowns do.
  • Very firm. Shaking hands with someone whose hand just sits there is like shaking hands with a dead fish! :(
  • Sometimes I just skip the handshake and punch the guy in the nose. ;P
  • I am female and I have a "firm for a female" handshake. I don't like bone crushing grips or vigorous arm-pumping, but a weak handshake feels both insincere and, yes, creepy, to me.
  • I have a pretty firm handshake:)
  • I have a firm handshake. I am not fond of wimpy or clammy handshakes. Ick.
  • I have an overtly firm grip and handshake. Whimpy handshakes throw me off, but only because of the contrast by comparison to the strength of my own handshake.
  • i feel uncomfortable shaking hands...i have no idea if its firm or not pretty sure its not wimpy maybe sumwhere in the middle...i just let the other person take the lead
  • I think I have a firm handshake. I don't like 'wimpy' handshakes, either. It's like you're holding a 'wet fish' or something like that! Ewwwww! :-)
  • I have a firm handshake, one with substance instead of an empty gesture. I have seen (and experienced) people who "shake hands" with a thumb and forefinger. Why bother?
  • Firm. I have small hands and a weak frame, but ALWAYS a firm handshake. "Dead fish" make you seem insincere.
  • Handshakes in general give me the creeps. I just met you. Why would I wanna touch you?? Would you like me to groom you too, like a couple of monkeys??
  • I really don't care how strong a handshake is. It means nothing either way.
  • I have a firm handshake. I'm surprised so many men have wimpy handshakes, seems really odd to me.
  • I have a firm handshake ... I think that is the way it should be :-)
  • I gave a wimpy handshake to someone once, and the way he made me feel about it caused me to forever alter the way I shake hands. Now I ALWAYS give a very, very firm handshake and I also look directly into the persons eyes. The only time I am gentle is if the person is elderly, and even then my handshake is still firm.
  • Oh I hate it when a person barely takes the tips of your fingers briefly and then lets go immediately. Maybe it isn't fair but then I have a poor opinion of them.
  • well, guys, do you like firm handshakes from girls? i love to give and recieve a firm handshake, it says: PROFESSIONAL! i hate those weak handshakes, so nasty cold and limp... eww..
  • It depends onwho I am meeting. Dinner party a light polite lady like handshake. Work, I have a firm handshake that says I know my job.
  • Always a firm handshake. I feel sincerely sorry for those who have the wimpy handshake, they remind me of that shaky chihuahua on a kids movie I once saw.
  • A nice firm handshake. I hate it when people only offer you there fingers to shake
  • I try to have a firm one, for a female, but most people act like they didn't expect me to have that firm a handshake. I also hate when people have a limp shake, but maybe they are overcompensating in fear they might hurt someone hand if they are too strong. What I REALLY dislike is a "tip squeezer." They just grab the tips of your fingers for an instant, give them a little squeeze, the let go, like they are afraid to touch you so they make minimum contact.
  • I'm firm when I shake someones hand. But, I don't like it when someone squeezes my hand so hard that my fingers stick together. The other day this woman shook my hand so hard that it almost made my eyes water. When she left I just kind of waved goodbye because I didn't want her to crush my fingers again.
  • It means nothing to me. To me a "wimpy" handshake is just casual, relaxed and gentle not wimpy. I think some people squeeze unnaturally hard. It's like giving someone a bear hug. However I decided to have a firm handshake because some people seem to think they can judge everything about you by it.
  • I accept someone's handshake as they give it -- as an act of greeting. I don't bother with wishing the person would do it to my satisfaction, light or firm. And I avoid making some rather extreme judgments on people for their handshakes. Seems I'm in the minority compared to most of the other answers. [ I have a firm handshake by the way.] +6
  • I have a firm handshake. I hate whimpy ones . . . and it throws people off because I'm female.
  • Wimpy handshakes give me the impression that they person whose hand I'm shaking could care less. I tend to give firm handshakes.
  • YUK Wimpy and wet...YUK!
  • I had a firmer handshake when interviewing for a job than I did when meeting a possible suitor. Do you really want a potential gf to have a crushing handshake? Its not the impression I want to give. You say wimpy, I say delicate. A crushing handshake is not the impression I want to give when trying to show sympathy for a loss in one's life, though that would be more like holding and patting the hand than shaking it. And though you didn't mention it sweaty hands to me are worse and can be avoided simply by using antiperspirant.
  • A damp, clammy wimpy handshake is the worst.
