  • Disagree. Soccer is not nearly as popular as American Football here.
  • I'm not sure about this world cup. No beer no hotdogs . Notice on the first game all the people of Qatar leaving at half time. Qatar were 2 goals down.
  • Disagree, however soccer (football) replaced the war like mentality of the Gladiator ring, opposing teams battling it out on the pitch, it is deemed to purge the aggressive behaviour of the masses, in a controlled manner, unless you've been to some of the past football matches where supporters actually meet up and fight each other.

      LOL!! In short yes.
  • He's obviously paraphrasing Marx but I disagree. I've been to a lot of football matches (without getting involved in fights) and most of the real football fans I know are fed up with the corporate take over of football and the obvious corruption within FIFA which has led to the World Cup being played in Qatar. Usually a World Cup generates enthusiasm in casual fans, which would add credence to the journalist's claim but I don't see the enthusiasm this time. I've not seen a single St. George's Cross or Three Lions flag on a car or in a window. The World Cup is usually a summer tournament played in a "football nation." This competition is being played in the wrong place at the wrong time.
  • Soccer is followed by most of the world since it is an easy game to play and understand. It requires not equipment and it is free to play.

Sheesh, the offside rule still gets me. I only watch the Euros, and world Cup. I think the last time I followed players was when Gary Lineker and Gazza were playing, I'm aware of Ronaldo and Messi, that's about it. It is free though, very few things are., surprised health and safety hasn't ruined it yet.
