Linoleum, ugly, but very easy to clean.

When I bought the house the floor in the kitchen was an old orangish ceramic tile in very bad shape. I couldn't stand looking at it, so I just replaced the old ceramic floor with vinyl tile for now. When I have time... I want to change it back to ceramic tile of a more appealing color than what was originally in there.
-
Linoleum. I hope we can afford to replace it soon. I'd love to have bamboo flooring in there. It has the attractiveness of wood, it's durable, and it's a more easily renewable resource.
-
Carpet. It's warm and very forgiving on dropped dishware.
-
Tile with radiant heat below. I also have an Oriental rug runner between the island and counter. Here's a photo of the floor before we got the runner.

Some seriously ugly stuff, that I am sure must be the first type of linoleum that ever came out on the market about 60 years ago. It is supposed to require wax, I believe, but the people who owned the house before us waxed it to death and now it is so nasty that you can see the floorboard pattern through it, sort of, when the light hits it. On top of this it's a gray with red, black and other color spatters in it. Some day we may be able to replace it. Until then it is not torn or anything, so I guess it'll do.
