Sure, I'll mention it to my son's if they have a meeting or hot date. Sometimes I'll mention it to a co-worker (whom I know isn't gay either)... :-)

yes. it's ok to tell your friends you think they are looking good when you're going out. it's a confidence boost or a simple compliment, that's what friends are for right?

I don't make a habit of bringing it up in conversation, but if it comes up, yes.

Only when I'm joking around. I might say "that's a badass beard" or "nice shoes, dude", but I never say "you look hot".

The way I have worded it is: "Looking really sharp" referring to how they're dressed.
