I'd go with flowers personally >_>

My family would get my Dad's mom, giant crossword puzzles. She loved those. I don't know if your mom would be interested in such, but it's a suggestion.
-

She probably has everything she needs. Flowers are not a bad idea, though my 80 year old friend said that as they wilted, they reminded her of her own death, that cant be far off. Take her out for lunch, or to somewhere she would enjoy. It's all about experiences and being part of something when many people reach their later years.
-
Dinner at the best place in town and maybe theater tickets for you both. At 82 she probably doesn't want or need more stuff.
-

-
Lunch then a mani/pedi with you. People forget about the gift of time

Mine is going to be 76, and I am just buying her a gift card. I mean, what do you get someone who has everything, and if they don't, they just go out and buy it? Yup, a gift card. I love receiving gift cards.
-
whatever she wants

I don't know, that's quite some way into the future. My mother will be 67 this year.
-
A Parachute jump. If that's too much, a balloon ride.
-
A pair of non-slip slippers are a great gift for elderly people.
-
It depends, if she liked her 81st birthday gift, go for something similar to that. If she hated it, try to mix it up with something totally different.
-
My mother is only 56.
-
I'll tell her, "I'll buy 100 candles from www.amazon.com for you but wait for 18 years more."
-
A journal to chronicle her life. If she's not excited about it tell her its for her progeny. Spend some time with her.
-
I'd say a bowling ball. Or a case of transmission fluid. Then again, I don't know your mother.
-
I'll tell you when she's that old. She's 56 now.
-
Why would you assume that my mother is that old?
-
It's too late to buy her anything now, but if I could have done so, I'd buy her good health.
-
It's my mother's 53rd birthday next month.
-
Probably move of your time.
