In my opinion, I think they are both the same. A person's mood and care determines a good, trained pet.

A cat in the sense you don't have to walk it, but if you let your cat out, you cannot protect it, you have to risk that being a free spirit it can lose its life, (mine was hit by a car and died of internal injuries) and chose another owner (mine choose me, having belonged to someone else who neglected it). Also, if you go on holiday, you have to get someone to stay at your home with a cat, or risk it getting out and lost at someone else's home. They also crap indoors, and bury their crap in your borders which isn't always the best surprise when gardening. I've had both, and loved both.
