  • The flesh-eating part is media hype. Don't buy into it. Still, though, xylazine has been used in veterinary medicine for years. It's cheap compared to most opioids; however, my understanding is that fentanyl is cheaper. So, that really really forces us to ask why fentanyl is being cut with xylazine? Is it to make it more potent? I doubt it. Cheaper? Doubt it. Sadly, I think the only reason is that xylazine overdose cannot be treated with the life-saving drug narcan.

      I would say typically not. Not because xylazine is a pain killer, but because anyone taking it on the street is likely taking it with fentanyl, which is.
