  • The Bible describes the end in the book of Revelation. There will be no doubt when the war of Armageddon begins, the things that will occur have never been witnessed before. As far as the generation is concerned, there is a 12 minute video on tv.jw.org entitled “David H. Splane: Close to the End of This System of Things” that gives a clear explanation.

That video made zero sense to me. A generation is people who live at the same time as each other, therefore, "this generation" refers to people who have a sixth sense? That doesn't follow. Also, he only takes 12 minutes to say it because he thinks that repeating something nonsensical very slowly several times makes it more believable. It does not.

So are you saying that for instance if Joe was born in 1935 and died in 2010, that when referring to Joe's generation, that only includes people that saw WWII and Desert Storm? If someone was born in 1950 and died in 1990, they were not part of Joe's generation?.................... "Sixth sense"? I think he mentioned spiritual discernment. Not everyone was to recognize what is happening. (Matthew 24:15) ?Therefore, when you catch sight of the disgusting thing that causes desolation, as spoken about by Daniel the prophet, standing in a holy place (let the reader use discernment), (Matthew 24:39) and they took no note until the Flood came and swept them all away, so the presence of the Son of man will be. ................. I myself wouldn't have suggested that video to someone that thought that Jesus was talking only about one thing at one time and that one generation was during Jesus time. Takes a bit of study and discernment to get there. I just posted the link because someone mentioned it and you couldn't find it. .... Don't know how to make paragraphs on the new AB so continued to another comment..

Start with a simpler prophecy. If you notice, the Bible gives the timing of the Messiah. Do you understand that prophecy? A few keys: when and what scripture was this given:"the issuing of the word to restore and to rebuild Jerusalem". What do weeks here refer to? Nothing happened 69 weeks of 24 hour days after the word went forth, right? (Daniel 9:24-27) There are 70 weeks that have been determined for your people and your holy city, in order to terminate the transgression, to finish off sin, to make atonement for error, to bring in everlasting righteousness, to seal up the vision and the prophecy, and to anoint the Holy of Holies. 25 You should know and understand that from the issuing of the word to restore and to rebuild Jerusalem until Messiah the Leader, there will be 7 weeks, also 62 weeks. She will be restored and rebuilt, with a public square and moat, but in times of distress. 26 And after the 62 weeks, Messiah will be cut off, with nothing for himself. And the people of a leader who is coming will destroy the city and the holy place. And its end will be by the flood. And until the end there will be war; what is decided upon is desolations. 27 And he will keep the covenant in force for the many for one week; and at the half of the week, he will cause sacrifice and gift offering to cease. And on the wing of disgusting things there will be the one causing desolation; and until an extermination, what was decided on will be poured out also on the one lying desolate.

Have to consider the context including the proceeding verse. Notice it was the generation that was to see all of those things occur. (Matthew 24:33, 34) Likewise also you, when you see all these things, know that he is near at the doors. 34?Truly I say to you that this generation will by no means pass away until all these things happen. If you are not familiar with the prophecy that gave the timing of the anointing of the Messiah in Daniel, here is link with the other verses and a simple chart: :https://wol.jw.org/en/wol/d/r1/lp-e/1102005151

What I am saying is that the generation who was old enough to remember Jesus in 35 AD has passed away. I'd go even further and say that, by the time the Gospel of Luke was written (~100 AD) that generation was thinning out, and by the time Luke was finished being revised (~140 AD), they were all gone. So the prophesy was already outdated by the time the word of the prophesy was widely distrubuted.

      Unfortunately, you're correct.
  • Notice that it was a 3 part question. (Luke 21:7) Then they questioned him, saying: "Teacher, when will these things actually be, and what will be the sign when these things are to occur?" (Matthew 24:3) While he was sitting on the Mount of Olives, the disciples approached him privately, saying: "Tell us, when will these things be, and what will be the sign of your presence and of the conclusion of the system of things?" https://wol.jw.org/en/wol/d/r1/lp-e/1990202?q=%22part+question%22&p=par "Tell us," they say, "when will these things be [resulting in destruction for Jerusalem and her temple], and what will be the sign of your presence and of the conclusion of the system of things?" In effect, theirs is a three-part question. First, they want to know about the end of Jerusalem and its temple, then regarding Jesus' presence in Kingdom power, and finally about the end of the entire system of things."]

Hello Tex, I received your comments. There was some misunderstanding on your behalf in my answer. The question in this subject speaks of the Apocalypse. Unless you reason with the questioner, you will not get the user to understand that God's Kingdom will be established on Earth. The end of the world to an unbeliever is literally understood as the Apocalypse meaning, the complete destruction of mankind.
  • deleted misread your question
  • The Apocalypse is based on the complete and final destruction of the world. Jesus said in Matthew 24:2 that not even a stone shall be left upon a stone in His return. Evidently with the rumors of cyber attacks, the Apocalypse is near.

Verse 1 and 2 were not talking about the world, were they? (Matthew 24:1-3) Now as Jesus was departing from the temple, his disciples approached to show him the buildings of the temple. 2?In response he said to them: “Do you not see all these things? Truly I say to you, by no means will a stone be left here upon a stone and not be thrown down.” 3?While he was sitting on the Mount of Olives, the disciples approached him privately, saying: “Tell us, when will these things be, and what will be the sign of your presence and of the conclusion of the system of things?” (Matthew 24:13, 14) But the one who has endured to the end will be saved. 14?And this good news of the Kingdom will be preached in all the inhabited earth for a witness to all the nations, and then the end will come. (Matthew 24:22) In fact, unless those days were cut short, no flesh would be saved; but on account of the chosen ones those days will be cut short.

Matthew Chapter 24 speaks of the destruction of the world. If you read verse 3, it clearly states the disciples wanted to know the sign of His return. Matthew 24:3 "As He sat on the Mount of Olives, the disciples came to Him privately, saying, Tell us, when will these things be, and what will be the sign of your coming and of the end of the age?"

BTW, I am not saying the world will disappear. The end of the world simply means the Apocalypse. In the book of Revelation, John describes the Holy city. The New Jerusalem coming down out of Heaven, rather than being in Heaven. Revelation 21:10 "And he carried me away in the Spirit to a great, high mountain, and showed me the Holy city Jerusalem coming down out of Heaven from God,"
