I pretty sure you can. It is very hard for you to breathe when someone just pretends to do it for a few seconds. So I imagine if you do it long enough you could smother them.

yes

No.
-
OF course you can with lack of oxygen you can be struggling to get it off or the person off and hyperventalate & die.
-
Yes, it's been done many times. You don't have to deny someone of ALL the air, just enough so that they don't get enough air to stay alive.
-
Yes, if you cut off enough oxygen to the brain for long enough death will occur.
-
Well, your question is based on a homicidal act. What is the purpose of this question?

Yes 1) "A Hempstead man was charged early Tuesday with attempted murder after he tried to suffocate the mother of his two children with a pillow, police said." Source: http://dplylemd.com/Books%20Info/m&mtoc.html 3) "Do you know how difficult it is to "accidentally" smother someone? It's not like in the movies, where putting a pillow over someone's mouth makes them go limp in about 15 seconds. Not only do you have to keep smothering them long enough for them to lose consciousness, you have to CONTINUE smothering them for some time after they've lost consciousness and gone limp in order to actually kill them. In the meantime, pleasant things like loss of bowel control occur! So, uh, yeah, it doesn't seem like much of an accident." Source: http://www.kcrenfest.com/Performer/CharacterSurveys/2007/Malvito.htm 5) "The man locked himself in the car with Devon. Then, inexplicably, he smothered the boy, holding a pillow over the child’s face. The boy was taken to a hospital, where he was declared deceased. Amanda Reagan Smith was injured as well. She was treated and released from the hospital that night. The Greenville News reported that Devon’s death was caused by “asphyxia due to neck compression.”" Source: http://crimeblog.us/index.php?paged=2 6) "Demons are flesh eaters, but they prefer to eat those who have great powers, because it makes them stronger. No one knows how they achieve this, for they are not solid. They do not like light, but the stronger the demon, the more light it can handle. They attack in the dark, covering a victim to suffocate it, kind of like smothering someone with a pillow." Source: http://www.freewebs.com/ddss1303/guidetocreatures.htm 7) "Nonetheless, it is impossible, or at least very difficult to smother someone with a kapok pillow, since you can effectively breathe through it, and it doesn't bend enough to close off the face, allowing the victim to turn his/her head to get air. Perhaps they use these crappy pillows in hospitals to make sure that nobody attempts to re-create "One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest". God knows that some kid saw the movie on TV and then decided to try it out on their friends. Damn kids." Source: http://forums.brainerddispatch.com/cgi-bin/bb/ultimatebb.cgi?ubb=get_topic;f=2;t=000432 ---------- ADDED ------------------------------------------------------ "There are both good thoughts and questions on this thread. Plausible deniability is the name of the game. If a person is pushed off a high building or bridge and no one sees it, only suicide or accident can be considered in any verdict. Likewise, if someone is strong enough and willful enough, they can smother someone with a pillow and no autopsy will determine cause of death. If someone has access to a death-dealing but previously unknown drug or cancer-causing agent, again there will be no real determination of death. And, of course, people die in vehicle accidents every day. A slight bump at the proper time and place is all that is required regardless of the novels and films about remote electronic triggers, etc. Contrary to popular opinion -- due mostly to watching TV programs like CSI (crime scene investigation) -- murder is relatively easy by anyone with the knowledge, resources and desire. Unless the person is almost totally incapable of struggling, or the pillow is VERY big and flexible - it really is not a practical method of dispatching them. And, on a related note, it is not possible to break someone's neck by twisting it sharply, as is too often portrayed by Hollywood as the optimal method of dispatching enemy sentries....
-
yes evan more so if the person being smotherd is under the influance of drink or drugs, try holding your face into pillows and see how little time passes before you start gasping---- the rest well thats it
-
You could smother someone with a hand over their mouth and nose, why would you think this would not be possible with a pillow?
-
Given a pillow big enough, you can smother Moby Dick.

I imagine you can but I think it must take a very long time. I have a friend whose big sister used to torture by putting a cushion on his face and sitting on it, and she used to sit there for a looooong time and he never died haha! She did it to me sometimes and even though the pillow was pressed against my face extremely firmly by her weight I could still manage to get a bit of air by sucking really really hard. However this got harder and harder to do over time and I began to get the feeling of panic and that I was actually suffocating after about 4 or 5 minutes. I'm guessing a couple of minutes more and I would have been in big trouble.

The human body is very resilient. That's one thing that some people don't understand. The point of my answer is that it takes time before the person can die. Of course, oxygen is everywhere and the human organs are not going to collapse easily. Yes its possible for someone for someone to smother another person with a pillow. It happens on tv and movies all the time. But to actually die from it? It may take hours, not 15 seconds.
-
yes, it works. if someone is pressing a pillow into your face, it gets harder to breathe, if not impossible, plus one would tend to struggle and panic. if it were a thin enough pillow one might be able to breathe, but many people have been killed in this manner.
-
I'm sure it's possible, especially if someone is forcing it on your face, and if you start panicking and freaking out, concentrating to breathe through it must get very hard.
-
I guess theya er covering the face with the pillow and covering the mouth and nose area with their hand, making the person suffocate! : (

Get someone to practice it on you and see! ha ha
