Light refracting through the atmosphere causes the blue sky which, in turn, blocks out view of the stars.

The stars aren't invisible. Invisible would imply that they have become transparent. The intensity of the sun just blocks out the light from the stars. As well as the reasoning pointed out by Gondola

8-9-2017 It is not because the sky blocks the stars, it's because the sky is bright and you can't distinguish the stars from the sky.
