  • It's just a matter of time.

      Yep!
  • the right event hasn't happened.the Canary Islands are volcanic so seismic activity is possible.
  • If that mountain land slide happens on the island off the northwest coast of Africa, the entire east coast of the US will get a tsunami.
  • I could be wrong, but most tsunamis seem to be generated by plate subduction earthquakes and the US east coast doesn't have an oceanic exposure to a subduction zone. That doesn't mean NC is thoroughly protected from a tsunami, it just means it's less likely to get one. However, it does have oceanic exposure to the North American-African and North American-Eurasian plate boundaries. As has been previously answered, the most likely source of a tsunami that could hit NC, would be a slide wave generated by the Cumbre Vieja volcanic ridge breaking away from the Isa de La Palma in the Canary Islands.
  • 10/30/2024, the chances of a tsunami hitting the East Coast of the US is extremely low. However, there are theoretical possibilities that the Atlantic Ocean could experience a large earthquake that causes a tsunami.
