Because it's good for the leather and makes your shoes last longer, without getting cracks, scuffs, or other worn out bits. Whoops, I feel like a dork now! I misread the question as, "WHY do people still..."

I bought a can of car wax to polish my new truck and then i found out that new cars have what is called "clear coat". It makes the paint shine without waxing. That reminds me of boot camp, there was a kind of clear coat of spray that i bought in the store and was made to put a shine on shoes. It worked great except in the parts of the leather that bends. The clear coating would get cracks and flake off. I worked out a system of using the spray on the smooth parts and wax in the bends.

Oh Porterhouse, look at the wax build up on these shoes I want that wax stripped off there, then I want them creamed and buffed with a fine chamois, and I want them now. Chop chop.

I haven't worn the kind of shoe that needs shining for quite a while. However, I used to shine my shoes all the time. My dad used to tell me that you could always tell if somebody was lazy by looking at the state of their shoes.

Yes, I usually get my high heel boots polished. I have many pairs, and I consider them an investment. Not only does getting them shined your make them look good, it is a necessary part of properly caring for and maintaining a nice pair of leather boots. The polish itself helps moisturize and waterproof the leather, lengthening the lifespan.

Ever since I first started using the Meguiar's Gold Class leather cleaner & conditioner to polish my boots, I have not stopped using it. The product works wonders.
-
All-Natural Leather Cream also works wonders. It provides a deep and nourishing condition beyond the leather surface.
