Aside from the stereotypes we associate with Jehovah's Witnesses, I think many people just feel religion is outdated. It did it's job, but now, in our globalised world, it seems to cause more harm and conflict than good. So for me the answer is no.

Absolutely not. Aren't they the ones who believe in letting their children die, rather than get a blood transfusion? If I had more time I would not have a problem with it although I already am a part of a home Bible study group, plus do a Bible study on Wed. evenings at my Church, and of course there's Sunday School. I have invited the JW's to my home and enjoyed it very much, although as a Methodist we do have some different ideas, but we are all brothers and sisters in God, our Abba Father. Great question. He created all of us, just as if your earthly father/mother had children by another person-then those 'other' children would still be your brothers and sisters (may be only half, but still they are family.) I know that God loves each and every 'body' on this earth and those buried under it, now He may have to punish some, but He still considers them His children and therefore whether saved or not they are our brothers and sisters. I just don't see Him playing favorites and saying 'oh, that one doesn't love me so they are no longer my child.' No parent could EVER say that!! Especially, our Heavenly Father!!

Yes I would, but they wouldn't convince me that their religion is "right". I would love to hear more about the religion,...and I would actually welcome them. Too many people are just pathetic and rude to them. -If you knew that Coca-cola saved lives, would you not go door to door handing it out. -Well they "know" they their religion will save your "soul". I think they are doing good.

I wouldn't, because I've tried, and to me they twist the bible around. They have part of the truth, and the other half is wrong. But I'm not going to sit here and judge them. I don't really like getting caught up in these kind of questions, because I'm not trying to cause confussion.

Perhaps, so that I could show them from the holy Scriptures that Jesus Christ is God come in the flesh, and that the Holy Spirit is a Person, not an impersonal force, and God. I would also like to show them that from God's Word that there is a literal hell and that the lake of fire is a literal and consious place of fire, torment, and eternal punishment. Of course, I would listen to what they have to say as well. I believe that as a Christian, a witness of my Lord, my God, and my Saviour, Jesus Christ, it is important for me to know about religions and people's beliefs and understand their veiwpoints as well; even if I don't agree with them. Because nothing in life is free. Everything comes with a price. They are expecting the visits to continue. Even if they don't continue they have spent time anyway. Once you let them in they will keep coming again and again. They will pressure you until you crack. They never lay the whole truth out for you from the beginning. In fact very few of them know their own religion. Just when they get a handle on it The Watchtower changes the message. When they stop predicting the exact date of the end of the world, maybe they won't have to replace all the disgruntled members that leave the day after the supposed end.

Mate, I'm an atheist. I don't believe any of them. My whole original point is that I don't hold the bible as any 'holier' than a bunch of other 'holy' texts. Unfulfilled prophecies? I can't remember off-hand, but have read long lists just recently. Jeconiah, in the OT, was cursed by god so he'd have no children, ever. In Matthew he's listed as one of Jesus' ancestors. Candace is obviously a Witness. You see that whole thing about how it's important to investigate things and make your own decision? That's not how JW's work. You don't do any investigating and then make up your own mind. In a true free minded investigation, like in college,a topic is chosen. Then there are some references that you are invited to look at, which are generally chosen by the teacher or the school or both. You are always required to use a minimum (2) outside reference materials and resources, which you must find on your own, to help you reach your conclusion. This encourages independent research, allowing a person to hear all sides of an issue before forming an opinion about it. When you study with JW's this is not what happens. JW's choose the topic. You read a paragraph from a pre chosen book usually. Then you are asked a question pertaining to that paragraph. Next you look back to that paragraph to find the answer. No independent research. No opposing viewpoints. No second opinions. You are not encouraged to go out and research any further for youself. Don't get me wrong. The individual witness is usually a fairly decent person. They are as much victims as anyone. They simply fell prey to the same tactics that they then try to use on you. The disturbing thing is that the leaders of JW's have so many secrets. The average witness has no idea about the cover ups and the anything but Christian behaviors that take place behind the scenes. THe leaders of JW's have the best of all worlds. They can be involved in all kinds of disturbing behaviors behind the scenes and the average witness will never know about it. They will never know because the leadership has made it a disfellowshipping offense to read any literature or talk to anyone with a less than flattering opinion of JW's. The JW leadership had made it a hard fast rule to avoid anyone who has had contact within their ranks and has left the religion. They don't want you reading any books or reading anything on the internet that would expose them. The average witness doesn't see it that way. They don't realize that whenever somebody tries to control what you read and who you associate with or in other words when someone tries to control your access to information they ALWAYS have something to hide. It's like a child that get's a bad report card but tries to convince his parents not to look at it. He assures them it's good and they should not investigate any further. Rediculous right? Not if your a witness. The average JW bites that one hook line and sinker. I tell anyone before you study with JW's, and I won't say DON'T study with them, just that if your going to, speak to x witnesses that left. Read all you can about why others feel the witnesses are a false religion and a cult. It won't be hard to see how misled their teachings are. They have their own bible which they have tainted to fit their doctrines. The average witness again never researches to see if their translation of the bible is inaccurate or not. They accept blindly what they've been told. Anyway, I would not have a study with them. It is a very secretive world once your involved. They use age old techniques to get control of your mind, they fill you with fear using scare tactics and then use that power to get you away from non witness associates. Isolation is key to their tactics to slowly take over your mind. They want you associating only with other witnesses. This minimizes the risk of free thinking. They also replace your normal every day speech with their own special language unique to only other witnesses. This is known as 'freezing'. The men hold special secret meetings where non-elders and females are excluded. Decisions are made regarding peoples lives and some are disfellowshipped. The congregation is then supposed to accept these decisions regardless of their complete lack of knowledge as to why they are complying, or whether the accusations were true or not. In fact the average witness is never privy to why a person is disfellowshipped. They just have to pretend the person being shunned is dead from that point on, and cannot even make eye contact with their former brothers and sisters and friends and family. This gives the elders a unique power. The power to make you conform or else. And it doesn't matter what the truth is, you will be shunned without the benefit of telling your side of the story to the congregation which is to shun you. It's a mess. So unless you want to give up your free will to a group of men in Brooklyn that you have never met and don't know anything about except what your told, stay away. Far away.

Sarah obviously became jealous and threw her out of her home. However, we all know that slavery is to be condemned as being inhumane, even Christians admit that. No human being should be owned by another for whatever reason. From the construction worker to the Phd., slavery is recognized for what it is: an abhorrent practice. However, the Bible, which is touted as "the" standard of morality by Christians, declares that slavery is not only acceptable, it is even commanded by the biblegod. Don't believe me? Read on. I will not quote the whole text here, because you can read it for yourselves. I quote from Young's Literal Translation: Numbers 31:1 And Jehovah speaketh unto Moses, saying, 2 `Execute the vengeance of the sons of Israel against the Midianites -- afterwards thou art gathered unto thy people.' [...] 9 And the sons of Israel take captive the women of Midian, and their infants; and all their cattle, and all their substance, and all their wealth they have plundered; [...] 17 `And now, slay ye every male among the infants, yea, every woman known of man by the lying of a male ye have slain; 18 and all the infants among the women, who have not known the lying of a male, ye have kept alive for yourselves. To begin with, notice in v.9 that the Israelites are not simply told that they can take "captives" from among the Midianites, but are commanded to take "captives" from among them. They are to slaughter all the men, the male infants and all the women who had who had "known a man." Needless to say, we are impressed with the goodness of the biblegod ordering, as he did, the slaughter of all the male infants and the women who weren't virgins. Truly, biblegod's goodness knows no bounds! The term "captives" in this context is the biblical code word for "slaves", and not simply someone who was captured. The Israelites were to take captive and enslave all the women who were virgins, icluding the female infants, and keep them as slaves. Anyone disputing this should take a course in basic reading. The meaning is quite clear. Let's take a look at another passage. Tamar was viciously raped by her brother. When this becomes known most of the men involved, including David downplay it and tell her to shut up and deal with in so many words. Lets examine this; But Tamar put ashes on her head, and tore the long robe that she was wearing; she put her hand on her head, and went away, crying aloud as she went. Her brother Absalom said to her, “Has Amnon your brother been with you? Be quiet for now, my sister; he is your brother; do not take this to heart.” So Tamar remained, a desolate woman, in her brother Absalom’s house. The text you quote where you say God told them not to rape their captives doesn't cover all the instances of rape that were permitted. And there were several. We saw a few listed above. Either way. Under no circumstances was outright slaughter acceptable. You mention all the horrible things that some of the Isralites victims did that meant they may have deserved being eliminated. However, you haven't explained what the toddlers did so bad? Did they cry too much? Did they covet their neighbors pacifier? Perhaps they were lusting improperly while breast feeding? No. Little babies did nothing wrong. Same thing happened at the time of the flood. Little innocent children were mercilessly drowned. Even if God saw fit to irradicate all life on earth, why didn't he do it quickly and painlessly? You know what? God is definitely a man. Because only a man could make such a mess out of things and screw things up so bad and not accept any responsiblity or take any blame for any of it and still think he's PERFECT!!!

Holiday look up Farrell Till. He has an open ended challenge to any one who thinks they can prove there are no errors in the bible. Also the Watchtowe magazine dated September 8, 1957 admits that there are somewhere near 50000 irreconcileable errors in the bible. OOOOOHHH! Reallly?? The watchtower says that? Yes, then it tries to justify this by stating that the NWT, (the JW bible) was written and the translator fixed most of these errors. Yeah they fixed it up allright. To suit their doctrines. But secondly they admit they have only fixed "MOST" of the contradictions and errors in the bible. What is most? If there are 50000 errors then most would be at minimun 25001 corrections leaving 24999 errors. So most would have been corrected. So what is most? are there still 20000 errors in the bible? 10000? 5000? What kind of person in their right mind would call a book that they admit is loaded with errors the "infallible" word of God? That is an error right there. Yes it is in the Watchtower. And after 1934 according to the Society they were Gods' chosen people. So it is not wrong to read a 1957 watchtower. Look in your own literature before you stick your foot in your mouth.

I did, and spent approx 6 months "studying" with 2 JW's. I put the word "studying" in quotes because after my experience, I'm not at all sure that it's even possible to truly study with the "witnesses". To most folks, "study" of any subject would involve examining the evidence from various credible sources, scholars, etc. But what I found was that JW's flatly dismiss everything & anything that isn't produced by their own organization... How much sense does that make?! By that standard, anyone could believe anything... all you have to do is just refuse to look at anything that you (and your beliefs) don't agree with. This quickly became a problem in our "study", as things they were telling/showing me just didn't add up and I began asking questions... It's been awhile now and I can't really recall all the issues we had, but I do remember a couple. One had to do with their contention that Christ's body was not resurrected (apparently, they believe it "dissolved"). I pointed out that this was at odds with what their own bible said (in John 2:19-21). When I suggested that it might be worth consulting various sources in the hope of getting more insight into the subject, I was somewhat shocked to find that they simply didn't care to do that at all. Basically, they acted as if the subject and the discrepancy simply didn't matter! Had a similar experience when it eventually came out (after about 6 months!) that they believe/teach that Jesus somehow was/is/ "Michael the archangel". For me, that was a head-scratcher and I pointed out that such a belief would seem to be at odds with Hebrews 1:5 (I just looked it up) which says, "For unto which of the angels said he at any time, Thou art my Son, This day have I begotten thee? and again, I will be to him a Father, And he shall be to me a Son?" (ASV) How does that fit? The JW's had no answer and apparently didn't care to discuss or think about it at all. As far as they were concerned, the 6+ months that we spent "studying" was only supposed to consist of them having me read various JW publications and then parroting back the desired answers to the little 3rd-grade style quiz at the end of each segment. I sometimes felt like they thought that if they could just get me to keep repeating the (very questionable) assertions in their publications over & over enough, sooner or later I'd just cave in and agree that it was "the truth". It was weird. Ultimately though, I made it clear that I'd have to have some of my questions/concerns answered with **real evidence**, and at that point, things quickly ground to a halt. The leader/older of the two stated that it seemed our discussions were "no longer fruitful" and I had to agree. How could any real fruit come from a bunch of assertions that are completely unsupported by any real evidence, or worse yet, are plainly at odds with scripture?! Our "study" ended the following week, and the only regret that I have, is that it didn't end sooner. What a colossal waste of time. Then again, if you're the type that has never read the bible, or are the type to just believe what you're told without checking the facts, a JW "bible study" may be just the thing for you. I cannot recommend it, however.

Not at all. First of all I have debated with several of them coming knocking my door expecting me to be a naive. I took them for a ride. They have no spiritual knowledge or ability to explain spirituality. Most of them I met are religion sellers. To my surprise I also found they are getting paid for doing this. So it is a part time job of selling religion and converting poor minds.
