Firstly, failure to recognize that both happiness and unhappiness are mental states, and as such, originate from within and not from without. Secondly, that all mental states are in one way or another linked to emotions, dependent on emotions, or arise directly from various emotional states....thus it is the failure to exercise control over the emotions that dooms one to life as a rudderless ship in a turbulent sea.
