It means covered in blood. It dates back to a time when discussing bodily fluids was one of the strongest taboos.

Hi Soda baby! I don't know the exact story behind the origins of that word... But I do know that it is their equilivent of a curse word or swearing. I imagine it must go back to either some old war reference or Jack the ripper or something specific to English History? Like F.U.C.K does ours... It's the legal term for rape. For Unlawful Carnal Knowledge.

In the UK there's a real desire to drink blood. It's odd really. Like, 'get off my bloody cookie!' Or, 'I want a bloody milkshake!' Everything has blood in it. Nah, it's just an expression over there that I actually like. Much better than some of the slang words here in the states.

In the states, we only use bloody for one thing and it's for hangovers. Where the hell is my bloody Mary?
-
It's just like a nicer way to swear. And I just use it for emphasis, kind of. Like telling somebody they're a bloody idiot, or bloody brilliant or it's a bloody nightmare or. I just like saying bloody, really :)
-
it's a cultural phenomenon, like American southerners saying "y'all..."
-
we use it the same as the word fuck (Sometimes) like "fucking hell" "bloody hell".
-
It is a mild expletive. We use it in the same way as "Damn" or "Darn", although, in some small areas of the country it is treated as full on swearing.
-
Not sure if this will help or not. Its bloody confused the hell out of me and i'm bloody British lol http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bloody
