Yes, I'm sure they could be.
-
I would say yes.
-
Someone can be fired for anything.
-
Yes.
-
Yes. If you are scheduled to be there at a certain time and you are consistently late, you can cost the company money, put undue stress on other employees, show the employer that you can't be trusted, fail to comply with company policy...
-
Absolutely.
-
if your always 5 minutes late, start leaving your house 5 minutes early.
-
Why not? some businesses are more sensitive to that than others
-
i remember my receptionist was always late. once, i spoke with her because her tardiness made a couple of sheriff's deputies sit in the parking lot 45 minutes. not kosher!!! she cried to my wife who in turn yelled at me. so, maybe someone can be fired, but the practical ramifications can be chilling!!!

Yes. Whether you are late by 10 seconds, one minute or seven minutes it is all the same - late is late. Being late shows that you have little respect for other peoples time. It is rude and disruptive.
-
Yup.
-
Yes, especially if you're a surgeon.
-
yes.
-
Hell yeah! Have you gotten a 'no' answer yet?
-
Yeah, but it's less likely if you have a boring job that no-one cares about, like being an accountant.
-
If it's on a continuous basis then yes you can. It also depends on your circumstances and if you've told your supervisor behind your lateness, they might try and work with you.
-
Yes, and you should be. If you cannot be there when needed, the employer has the right to get someone that can.
-
That's an easy one, YES...
-
Probably ~ depending on the job. I was thinking about this very thing this morning while driving to work ... late (again). I'm lucky my job is flexible and I dont take breaks so they know they're on to a good thing regardless of me being late. I've occasionally apologised and offered an explanation - no explanation required :)
-
Yes they can. If the employee is serious about wanting to keep their job, they would be there on time. I think they should be given a warning first -- everyone deserves a chance to redeem themselves.
-
yes, if you are 5 minutes late then it is your own fault and is saying to your employer that you dont really care about being on time because if you did then you would try to be there at 8:45 instead of rushing for 9:00. If you try to get there at 8:45 and are 5 minutes late then guess what, you are still early!
-
Yes...they can fire you for pretty much anything.
-
yes
-
Not if you make up for it by leaving early.
-
One who comes 5 min late should be punished to go home 10 min later than others. And I think being late constantly is a problem.
-
In Arizona someone can be fired for anything.
-
It's very likely, especially if your company is downsizing or you have other discipline issues.
-
Yes.
-
I would hope so! I don't even think being unionized could prevent it.
-
Absolutely.........Tardy is tardy.....doesnt matter by how many minutes. Unless you can give your boss sexual favors.
-
In the vast majority of states, employment is "at-will," meaning that you can be fired for any reason, or no reason at all (there are a few exceptions, the most obvious ones being laws against racial discrimination in employment). Go through your employee handbook. I bet one of the first things it says is that your employment is at-will.
-
Yes. One place that I worked for will fire you if you are 30 seconds late enough times. I quit because I got a better job and they were a lousy place to work for.
-
Yes. It is better to be early for work that late. You will get a good reputation with the bosses this way and maybe a promotion some day as long as your other work habits are good.
-
in a right to work state you can be fired for having an annoying phone voice so yea
-
Yes , If I was the employer I would definitely fire them I loather bad timekeeping. It shows a sloppy attitude to all aspects of a job.
-
Absolutely! And should be. It is a form of stealing.
-
Not necessarily. it would depend on the warnings and the amount of damage you cause. Strictly speaking you should probably have at least three warnings before dismissal is used. For how long were you employed? Richard
-
Yes they can.
-
Sure.
-
of course..imagine the whole workforce did this, because it did not matter...:)
-
Yes, seen it happen plenty of times where i work.+5
-
yes you can and should.wake the f up and be responsible.
-
That depends on a lot of things, such as how vital is her timekeeping to the job (is the person in direct customer service or a pen pusher at the back) and how tolerant the firm is (are other employees doing the same thing?). Also, how well does the person perform in other aspects of the job. I have seen people kept in spite of constant tardiness because they had excellent skills that the company did not want to lose.
-
it depends on the state laws and the bylaws of the place you work, but yes in most cases you can be fired for absolutely no reason at all, all that protects you is the bylaws of your company. So definitely a big yes you can be fired for being late 5-7 min.
