The camera obscure was used by painters hundreds of years ago. they had a portable room that was dark inside. There was a small hole on one side or end of the room. The artist would position the room so the scene was aligned with the subject. He would then move the wall in and out until the image was in focus on the opposite wall. He would then trace the scene on the canvas. The image would be upside down. After the tracing was complete he would remove the canvas and complete the painting. You can make your own camera with a small box. the light going through the small hole will produce an image on the other end.
