In Britain, the word origin is not clear, but it is assumed to be based on the word "faggot" which refers to a bundle of sticks, which is what a pack of cigarettes resembles.

They used that term for a cigarette in southern Indiana in the 1960's.

The term fo a small bundle of sticks is fagot. The cigarettes look simialar to a small bundle of sticks. Hence the name. Sooooo when you want a smoke in England just say "you wanna blow a fag" for real

The question is why is a FAG a gay man in North America. THe Fag for cigarette has been around a lot longer. They had the word first.
