  • The difference is what actually happens to you when you come off it. Physical dependence could see all sorts of nasties like diarrhoea, cramps, sweating, vomiting.
  • TRY USING SOME LOWER CASE LETTERS! There are a few scientists and doctors that claim there is little or no difference between the two. • Psychological dependency Psychological dependency is a dependency of the mind, and leads to psychological withdrawal symptoms (such as cravings, irritability, insomnia, depression, anorexia, etc). • Physical dependency Physical dependence on a substance is defined by the appearance of characteristic withdrawal symptoms when the substance is suddenly discontinued. http://tinyurl.com/addictiondependency • You can have a psychologically dependency to almost anything that is rewarding in some way. Psychological dependencies can even include things other than drugs: internet addiction, eating disorders, cannabis(marijuana), gambling and pornography. • Drugs such as alcohol, opiates, nicotine, amphetamines and caffeine will usually elicit a physical dependence.
  • When you are an addict, it's hard to tell the difference between a psychological dependence and a physical dependence. Alot of people (experts, doctors, etc) love to go on and on about the differences between the two... ask any cocaine addict, and they'll tell you psychological dependence is just as difficult to deal with as physical dependence. I think that psychological dependence might actually be worse than physical dependence - since, for instance, there is a finite amount of time (during physical withdrawal) that you'll be subjected to symptoms. With psychological dependence, there is no time limit to how long you can suffer for that. Also, there is more "help" out there for those with physical dependence - very little for those with psychological dependence.
  • A psychological dependency is a dependency to a substance (for example) that is not physically addictive. I.e.- Something that is physically addictive such as alcolhol, will give a person physical withdrawal symptoms (such as shaking) and to stop the withdrawal symptoms the person will need to consume more alcohol. A person who is alcohol dependent is at serious health risks if they suddenly stop drinking alcohol, and often need to weaned off to minimise physical withdrawal symptoms. Whereas a pshycholical dependency will display no signs of physical withdrawal, but mental withdrawal syptoms such as depression and anxiety can be very much present. Physical and pshychological dependency are equally as hard to break and sometimes people have a physical and psychological dependency which is obviously even harder to break.
