It's possible he chose not to fight for the house, but it's also possible that the court made her pay him half the value. Every situation is different. If they had kids and she got primary custody, it would have been viewed as favorable to keep her in that house so the kids wouldn't have to be uprooted in addition to the other turmoil they were experiencing with the break-up. And don't forget, a lot of people are bitter after a split. He may have referred to it as "His" house, when in fact it wasn't.
