light shouldn't be on if it's unplugged. Must be reflection of light in the room. You unplugged it and now no power at all huh. Try plugging the thing back in. Try a different outlet. Plug it directly into the wall socket and see what happens. It could be an overheating issue. If it's rear projection, it could be a bad lamp. I don't know your model is RP, LCD, or Plasma.

Your main board is bad. You could have it replaced, but only if it's REALLY worth it. It might cost you about $400 to $600 dollars.
