They can be good, assuming they have enough self-awareness not to take themselves too seriously.

I like the "Way Off Broadway" musicals but since I am live in New York City now I see less than I did before I moved there!

If they're good, they can be really really good. (Grease, Phantom of the Opera, Sound of Music) If they're bad they are intollerable (MamaMia, Grease II)

I think they can be pretty cool. Even the corny ones are usually very amusing.

They should be limited to six songs. That's it! Any more than that ruins the story. "76 Trombones" would've been a lot better if they left out the songs about sidewalk cracks, hangnails, band-aid stings, and other things that were incidental to the story.

If the songs are in in context, then I can just about take them, but when people simply burst into song for no apparent reason, often in the middle of a conversation, then that's too much for me.

I absoloutely love them! Me and my best friend broke into song in my car on the way home last night. We were singing along to "Elephant love medley", good times...

I like a few. I find that the flow can be easily disrupted by a poorly placed song, though.

For me, a lot depends on the songs...in a good musical, the lyrics of the song help to move the plot along...in a bad one, the plot just stops while the actors sing a random song. That makes it seem like the music was just an afterthought instead of an integral part of the show.

Love them!! In fact, quite possibly the only 2008 produced movie I plan to see is High School Musical 3. The only movie produced in 2007 I've seen was High School Musical 2.
