While it's not completely free, Guild Wars offers a free subscription. You only have to buy the game, you do not need to play a monthly fee. It's probably one of the better "no monthly fee" MMO's out there. I wanted to update my answer. Runes of Magic is now fully live. It's A LOT like World of Warcraft and is totally free to play. If you want specific items, like a permanent mount, you have to pay for it though. Mostly just the store costs money. But I've played it for a while and haven't felt I needed to pay -

HMMMM well runescape is a barrel of fun however there are games like ROSE, Ragnarok private servers, Travia (beta), Trickster, Pirate King, MAPLESTORY!!!(lol) so it really depends on what type of gameplay your looking for. if you want to get more specific go ahead and refine your question, i play tooooo many games!

I really liked Adventure Quest, runescape was nice but i thought the graphics were so outdated, maple story kept me occupied for a while the same for Pirate King (Pirate King has a horribly leveling system)

I'd have to say Guild Wars. Some friends of mine play it all the time and they love it. While not actually free,(you have to buy the actual game to play it) There is no monthly subscription fee. Whereas with World of Warcraft you have to pay 15 bucks a month last I played.

First off. No. I've played Runescape, and TECHNICALLY it is free, however you have minimal things for it. Member's worlds and such are truely more worth it. Shell out US$40 for the "Diablo II" game and "Diablo II: Lord of Destruction" expansion pack. Then play free with lots of other people on Battle.Net. I happen to enjoy that game very much. You learn tricks from other people on how to achieve higher levels, and you always run into people who are only too happy to give you free stuff (such as me).

Actually I have to disagree. I find Furcadia a very good roleplaying game. Its a free game where you can chose your species and interact with friends or other people all over the world. You can socialize, role-play and even make creations of your own to reflect how you look at the world. Its a brilliant game and its one of the largest online communities that I can think of other then Runescape, Maple Story etc. Not that there is anything wrong with playing Runescape, but I find Furcadia easier to understand, type and play.

Have to agree Guild Wars is one of the better 'no subscription' online games.. Archlord may be worth a look but if you are a serious gamer it probably won't push all your buttons.

I think Planeshift. First of all because if you want to rol-play online and you don't want to find characters with name like s33k3r, th3knight, etc. There the players want to rol-play and leveling is not primordial. And second: IT'S COMPLETELY FREE. if you are into the high def graphics then I cant help you, but if you are looking for a good browser based game and can handle that simplistic outlook it takes then I suggest www.urbandead.com dont let the looks fool you, it has one of the best online comunitys I have ever seen, and because there ARE NO MOBS you get the satisfaction of knowing that every time you score a kill, there is someone on the other side that is going crazy!

Depends on your defintion of "Free". If you mean a game that doesn't come with a monthly price then i would say either Diablo 2 or Guild wars is a ton of fun although you would have to pay the intial charge although for either game its about 40 to 50 bucks which if you have internet and a computer im sure you could afford that anyway lol. Or if you mean a game with absolutely no price i would say maplestory is incredibily addictive or runescape although i haven't played that one too much although you could easily spend at least 5 hours playing that game only to get your wood chopping skill up hah!!

I would have to say *Guild Wars*. Even though you have to pay for Guild Wars when you purchase the CD, you don't have to worry about the monthly payments. Another game that is severely overlooked by those who want to play online games is *Scions of Fate*. It is an Asian-like MMORPG that is really fun and really addicting. There are tons of people who play it so there is no shortage of people who can help you. They also tend to be very friendly on it as well. I played it for months up until I bought WoW.

Jay played Never Winter Nights for years. He loved it. You do have to buy the start up disks, but other then that it's totally free. The story lines are good, the graphix are awesome and player designed by the DM's, the DM's are fair, and the people follow the rules for the most part. If you get the game go on the server with Elderon the Elf King and tell him his sister-in-law Sara sent you.

I've played Runescape, and to be honest, after a while you really don't get much out of it if you are not a member. Diablo2 is an awesome game, if you are willing to buy the game itself. If you really want a totally free game, go with Flyff, from gpotatoe.com. It's a ton of fun, really addictive, and the graphics are surprisingly good.

Well im asuming your after a free RPG game so I would go with http://www.runescape.com . It is the biggest MMORPG on the internet you can get without any downloads or fee's yet it may be a little hard to understand for some because it has so much to offer. Over 100 quests, more than 30 skills, items and monsters galore, holiday items, special events, and it is a multiplayer with an allowed 2000 players per server (when you create a character you dont have to choose only 1 server to go to.

Depends on your preference... some people like Runescape, Tibia, Trickster, Conquer, FlyFF, and a whole buncha other games too.. I personally HATE Runescape.. I found it to be one of the most boring MMORPG's I have ever played back when I did. And I've tried almost all the free and pay MMORPG's that are out (and alot of betas too).

Runescape is very poor, AdventureQuest is even worse. Try something like one of the Aeria games, LastChaos or 12 Sky are good right now, big download, but well worth it.

A truly free role playing game unlike Diablo 2 is from gpotato.com called Rappelz Epic 5 and has awsome graphics. Game is downloadable (free) and able to play online with up to eight players. They offer other games also but this is the only one I'm familiar with.

If your looking for a fun waste of a couple months, I'ld say runescape. The unfortunate part about this game though is that as you get stronger the more boring it becomes and how Jagex taunts you with all the member stuff.
