You might want to clarify the question. Gold is an inanimate element, it just sort of "sits there", like iron and lead. Its not really proper to speak of it having a lifecycle.

As far as I know, gold is pretty resistant to corrosian, rust and other decay. I've heard of ship wrecks lieing on the bottom of the ocaen with gold in them for centurys, and the gold still being reclaimed later.
