Thanks for reminding me that I need to get the parking brake on my truck fixed. Currently I don't get to use it at all.
-
I do, because there have been cases where unsecured cars have been stolen by thieves using tow trucks.
-
I've never parked on a steep incline, and never use my parking brake. :|
-
I'm not in the habit of using it at all. In fact, when my roommate puts up the parking brake, I tend to ride like that for a couple of blocks (not thinking to release it - lol)
-
All the time.
-
Never, but I drive an automatic. I think standard drivers use it more often.
-
If I drive the stick then yeah. If I drive the automatic then no.
-
The only time I can think of that I use it (aside from parking on a hill), is when I get a little crazy and decide to go e-braking in an icy parking lot during winter. It's pretty fun, although not exactly the smartest activity in the world.

Even on an automatic transmission vehicle its a good idea to set the brake cause it takes the pressure off the parking pawl inside the transmission. If your on a slight grade the weight of the sloped vehicle will set on the parking pawl which is a small lever type arm in some transmissions. If your car gets hit while parked it will also help to have the brake set so the car willnot move as far .

I drive a standard and almost always set teh parking brake. However, I didn't at least once, and my truck nearly ran over me while I was attempting to unload some lumber from the bed. I think Butthead pushed it to start it rolling.

Parking brake should always be used. http://www.discountcartire.net/

You should use it always because the car could roll back or forward, even on a very slight hill, or if someone leans on it or bumps it.
