I'm not a fan of musicals but I do like Moulin Rouge. It's really fun and a nice escape. I'd never seen anything like it before. It's worth watching at least once if only to marvel at the costumes and set design. The story itself is not the best, at times I find myself skipping through large portions of the movie just for the good scenes. I could go on and on and on about the pros and cons of Moulin Rouge, but you only asked for my favorite muscical, so there you have it, Moulin Rouge, the one and the only.

That's tough, but I think "Fiddler on the Roof" wins end the end. It deals with such deep human issues (religious attachment vs. love for family, etc.) and the music is so wonderful.
-
I like Chicago. It's a good movie besides it's a musical. I don't like them very much but this one got me popping some popcorn. Worth renting it at Blockbuster, keep it for one more day or two.
-
Cabaret. Although in a way its not really a musical, as the characters don't burst into spontaneous songs when washing up or walking along the street- just in the confines of the Kit Kat Club. But it has this wonderful decadent otherworldly atmosphere and a sense of really sinister foreboding- there's something beautifully apocalyptic about it, probably because it's set in Berlin shortly before all Hell broke loose in the mid-20th Century - people knew it was coming and desperately tried to forget about it in a desperate haze of drugs, sex and dirty bedsits. Plus it was based on writings by Christopher Isherwood, who should never ever be underrated. If you haven't seen it I recommend you do, now, even if you think musicals aren't your thing.

Would the Rocky Horror Picture Show be considered a musical?
-
HAIR I have loved this show since I was a little kid. Then my admiration for it was cemented when I got to play Woof in the 33rd Anniversary Production in LA... It really changed my life in many ways - from breaking down my inhibitions to evolving my performance style. And I made friends that I will always consider my tribe!
-
Phantom of the Opera. But othis is probably beause my Mum is watching me type this on pain of death. She loves Gerry Butler. If you count Bluies Brothers, then this is head, shoulders and hat above the rest.

-
High School Musical (2) if that counts!
-
Hopefully in December, the answer will be Sweeney Todd! But for now, I'd have to put up a few nominations: Singing in the Rain - Come on, watching Gene Kelly dance is mesmorizing. Rent - I was skeptical when my friend forced me to watch it, but I enjoyed it quite a bit. Beauty and the Beast (if we're counting animated features as well.) - The music is mesmorizing. It's also sadly one of the few Disney scores with complete Ashman lyrics. I'm not a big fan of Tim Rice, who did many of the other lyrics for Disney's movies after Ashman's death. There's probably more, but I can't remember any right now.
