Start with a acoustic, they are a lot cheaper, if you get on quite well go for a electric, if you can't get on with learning you will not have wasted so much money

well, most people would say get a cheap acoustic guitar, because you don't need an amp and if you lose interest it's not pricy. I started with an acoustic and found it boring, i almost quit guitar. then my mom got me an electric for christmas and i went from playing an hour a week to 3 hours a day. If you're trying to play the things that necesitate an electric(Metal, rock,) then go for an electric, if you don't care then go acoustic. I would recommend epiphone. Good luck.

Accoustic, for sure. You won't be distracted by all the amp bells and whistles, and can concentrate of the fundamentals easier.
-
a blend of both because accoustic will give you strength and dexterity while an electric will teach you to be gentile with the strings unless trying to bend notes

I would say what type of music do you want to play? If you want to strum along and sing silly songs or do folk music buy a steel stringed acoustic. If you want to play electric music buy an electric guitar. Such as blues, rock, metal and so on. If you learn on one guitar type then switch there will be certain amount of time to adjust that was not necessary. It's very hard for a beginner to go from one type to another. It takes 10,000 hours to master something so the more you practice the better you'll get.

I would try both. You can buy a used folk for about 25 dollars. An electric will run you about a hundred plus a hundred for the amp and about twenty five for the headphones. Some people do better with acoustic some do better with electric. Electric is lighter and smaller. Acoustic is cheaper and more common. Its a personal choice really that I can't make for you. 😊 PS I would opt for extra light strings. And coated strings last longer.

For a beginner, a cheap electric would be advisable since, as technios pointed out, it requires less strength and dexterity - a major cause for abandoning the guitar as a beginner is sore fingers. You might set your sights on a good 12-string later down the road - the deep tones are deeply satisfying.
