My Dad, and Norman Rockwell. I love the way they captured people's personalities. I mean both my Dad and Rockwell.
-
Edward Hopper. I love his depictions of solitude.
-
Zdzislaw Beksinski www.beksinski.pl He was a polish surrealist painter who never titled his works. Grim, disturbing, and post-apocalyptic are some good words for describing the paintings. He was murdered in 2005 by the teenage son of his caretaker.
-
Vincent Van Gogh You could experience his life and feel his pain by viewing his work. His use of color was brilliant. Through all of the hardships and grunge of his surroundings, he still captured the inner beauty.
-
René Magritte Amazing, you should really watch it! The greatest surrealist painter.
-
Claude Monet, the French landscape painter, is my favorite artist. His use of color and light is phenomenal.
-
Pierre-Auguste Renoir. My favorite painting is Dance at Bougival.

I don't want to sound big head or anything, but I like my art. Well, if you can call it that. It's sort of inspired by a lady (who I can't remember the name of) who used random things and pieced them together to make some of the most interesting art I have ever seen, so I did a bit of my own. This for instance, is my door (ignore the trousers)
-
Edvard Munch. Almost entirely for the painting "Madonna" I'd only really seen "The Scream" before (which I do like), but I came across "Madonna" when I was about seventeen and was immediately drawn into it. There's just something about that painting that expresses everything I ever wanted to say in my life and couldn't. About sex and death and life and religion and imagination. It sort of manages to portray ecstasy and agony and rapture all in one image. It reminds me of a crucifixion scene, but is more honest than any crucifix I ever saw. Its so difficult to tell whether she's in pain or in the throes of orgasm or in a religious rapture or all three. Maybe there's not that much difference. I write a lot, and it wasn't too long ago that I realised everything I ever wrote comes back to that painting in one way or another.

Olivia De Berardinis! She's a modern day glamour or pin-up artist. Her work is similar to that of what Alberto Vargas or George Petty did years ago, back when I fell in love with the art. I have all kinds of stuff with Olivia's artwork, including books, cards, and signed posters. I have a couple of signed, museum framed, original lithographs too. I wish I could afford more, but then I'd need a bigger place to hang them! Learn more about Olivia on EOlivia.com: http://www.eolivia.com/store/scripts/artist.asp

I like my own art. I do photograpghy, and odd patchworks of junk some would call sculpture some of it turns out downright awesome.

Giger, he created the Alien for the Alien movie series, be prepared for some amazing and disturbing stuff; http://www.giger.com/

Well, the artist is unknown but my favorite piece of art is called Laocoon. It is a kind of homoerotic piece (to quote my previous art history professor) from ancient Greece. The sculpture is based on the tale of the Trojan priest who was going to warn the Trojans about the Greeks hiding out when Posiedon snatch him and his sons back into the sea.

Andy Warhol. Because he poked fun at consumerism, and he created the Velvet Underground.

Well, I have always been a fan of the POINTILISTS and the IMPRESSIONISTS and all of their works; but if I were to specify one artist who, for me, is very gifted, I'd say it has to be PABLO PICASSO. Sorry, I know it's so ironic, considering that he isn't one of those I've mentioned above, because he was a CUBISM Artist. I really don't why, but I think he's a genius. For me, he has revolutionized the world of ART in a lot of ways..... :)
-
Renoir.

Nicholaus Poisson .....French Artist painted The judgement of Soloman Degas for his depictations of ballerinas

Many of my faves already appear in these answers. So, to expand the horizon a bit, I'm going to answer who my favorite contemporary living artist is... painter Tom DePree. Though still somewhat unknown, (even though he has sold over 2000 paintings in the last 20 years, in venues around the globe) of all of the artists I've represented in my gallery over the last 12 years, his work has been consistently excellent and has always had the broadest appeal to both serious art collectors and to the public in general. I'd say the appeal is because of the strong narrative yet enigmatic content of the work coupled with a strong expressionistic painting style. see more at http://www.tomdepree.com.

Edward Hopper. Evocative American landscape and seascape paintings. From 'Route 6' to 'Jo Painting', Hopper was one of the first to break the 'law' of romanticizing the subject. He started as an illustrator, and worked well in various mediums. Nighthawks is likely his most famous because of how it has been turned into a pop icon by inserting Bogie, Monroe, and Elvis in the diner. But his work goes beyond that to a varied collection of urban and rural scenes. He captured the mood of the depression in his solitary and often bleak cityscapes, and gave hope with his landscapes of common views from different angles, often accentuating the interplay of light and shadow. The four works below, Lighthouse Hill (the subject of 4 of his paintings), Monhegan Landscape, Evening Wind, and Corn Hill are examples of his less known, though equally accomplished, works.

My favorite artist is Thomas Kincaid. I think he just paints the prettiest pictures. They are so uplifting to me. I don't have any of his actual paintings, but I usually get one of his calendars every year. When I feel life weighing down on my old bones I look at those pictures and imagine a place of beauty and tranquility and then I feel more at peace.
-

Artist, a word use to often this days. For me, an artist is someone who is trying something new, something different. An artist is someone also who don't care about fame or money. An artist should be interested only about his creations and nothing else. So for many singer David Bowie, writer William Burroughs, french director Jean-Luc Godard and painter Vincent Van Gogh are good examples of what an artist is all about (so many others, i could write their name until next morning).
-
Either Jerry Clovis or M.C. Escher
-
Gustav Klimt had a wonderful use of pattern and could twist human anatomy to display emotion whilst making it look entirely natural. His paintings are very vibrant, erotic and symbolic. (I've put examples below) I also really like Henri Tolouse-Lautrec and Degas' work - there's a lot of movement and feelings in their paintings and drawings through the use of line and colour and impression. No person in the picture is posed, everything feels natural. Their lithographs are interesting as well.

Michelangelo

mc esher... pure magic on paper....... he is very mind boglingly exelent!!!!!
-
frida kahlo........her paintings are so powerful....... Frida Kahlo (July 6, 1907 – July 13, 1954) was a Mexican painter who depicted the indigenous culture of her country in a style combining Realism, Symbolism and Surrealism. An active communist supporter, she was the wife of Mexican muralist and cubist painter Diego Rivera. She is widely known for her self-portraits often expressing her physical pain and suffering through symbolism. In the last three decades she has gained admiration in Europe and the US resulting in the 2002 movie about her life starring Salma Hayek, which sparked even further interest in the life and arts of Frida Kahlo. Her house in Coyoacán, Mexico is a museum and visited by large numbers of tourists every year.
-
Mark Rothko Seeing his series of red canvases at the Tate gallery in London was an experience. They are large canvases whose gradation in color (red) throughout each canvas creates an abstract sea for the viewer to enter. It felt like a religious experience

There are too many great artists out there to be able to name just one. Of the artists I have met personally, my favorite would be David Hockney.
-

-
Ayami Kojima, the artist who did most of the artwork for the Castlevania video game series, which is also my favourite game series. Michiru Yamane composed the music, and she's just as awesome. Here's a video featuring some very nice Kojima pieces, mostly Castlevania, but some random ones too, with some songs from the game. I'm totally in love with the artwork and never get bored of looking at it.
-
Marcel Duchamp. He was extremely witty and had a great sense of detachment and irony. At the same time, he was extremely careful about the forms of his artworks, which many people misunderstand as plain "readymades".
-
Do I have to pick one? I love several different artists for different reasons. I love Salvador Dali for his fantastically imaginative works; I love Vincent Van Gogh for his ability to bring works to life; I love Andy Warhol for the pop art; I love M.C. Escher for his illusionary brilliance; I love Monet for the same reason I love Van Gogh. I could go on and on, the list is endless, and I add to it everytime I see a new painting or sculpture that touches my heart.

Well, I guess right now I like Chris Mars. His art comes off as really disturbing but he's an interesting person to me. Chris was a professional drummer I think with the stix. There is so much emotion and sensitivity in his paintings. It's kind of like a punch in the face. Chris Mars anguish and feeling about the world really come through. Well enough.
-
I like Sharron Ellis very much. Her art reminds me very much of mine.
-
Diego Rivera because he inspired people to stand up 4 their rights.
-
Norman Rockwell. He is a classic.
-
It's a toss up between Claude Monet and Susan Sarback. Susan lives in California and runs the School of Light. She can be googled if you are interested. Back in the 90's, I saw a Chihuly exhibit at the Seattle Art Museum and it was beautiful, mind-blowing and fantastic. An Italian artist working with Chihuly had made little clear glass putti's and they had placed them inside of some of the glass flowers. (Putti's are cherubs.)
