  • Ok, well basically you answered the first part of your question -- we shed our skin cells after their lifetime is complete; there's constant cell division making millions and millions all of the time. In plants, this process doesn't undergo. It's not necessary. Plants, grow in regions depending on their needs -- similar to us. So when trees lose leaves, it's because they don't need them anymore; it's requiring too much food, and energy to keep them there, and besides, not much photosynthesis is required when the plants do go dormant. Wow, this is complicated. It's hard to summarize. You'd have to do some Botany reading.
