Seems like everyone wants to forget Saddam's scorched earth policy, when he had all those oil wells burning. All that pollution from those wells far exceeds what people are making now. That's what is causing global warming. I think anyone that was over there will tell you that also.

It's a natural cycle. The camps melt, they re-freeze. Galciers advance and they retreat. Seal sevel goes up and it goes down. Those who believe in global warming are like Chicken Little: they feel a drop of rain and think the sky is falling.

Many people don't want to think that anything bad is going to happen to us, let alone something that we caused ourselves. However, there is no dispute over the validity of global warming in the scientific community. You can't argue with the numbers. The dispute is over whether or not we are the cause of it.

Thing is....the polar sea ice in the North has been expanding (seasonally-adjusted) since 2005, and the Antarctic ice has been thickening. The question is based on a faulty (propaganda-based?) premise.

The problem might be beyond pollution contributing to greenhouse gasses. It might actually be based in the sun.

Oh sure, it is a hoax, if you are in major denial. The sad thing is, people are now using the internet to claim that whatever inane opinon they may have. I can say Jesus came back to earth and is melting the polar caps and there will be some nuts on some "scientific" site to back up my claim. The truth is, global warming is happening. Period. I have heard some geniuses spouting that its a lie because they hate Al Gore. Give me a break.

Because they melt and freeze in an ongoing cycle. The cycle is bigger than your little lifetime. Just because you do not know the geological history of the earth does not prove that there is man made "global warming". I would encourage you to have more self respect than to buy into a political scam like global warming. They (the idiots in the environmental movement) are making fools of you.

The real question is... why aren't they totally gone yet?

Everybodys main problem is they think in a human time not solar time. Yes the earth has got hot and cold over MILLONS of years for one reason or another. But no disters has happened to spark the fast acting Average temp. rise but us. Nature ???? The earth would be heating up anyway but if man was not here it would toke another 100,000 years give or take . NOT 80 human years.

Global warming is not necessarely a hoax. what I do seriously doubt though is the supposed human contribution. Sure the earth may be warming, but I have yet to be convinced we are causing it. So many people point at CO2 being the cause, yet at the same time they say 'the temperature rise is greater than our models predicted'. Instead of asking why, they immediately conclude apparently CO2 has more affect than they thought. It clearly shows how science, when not in the hands of adequately educated and adequately skeptical people, usually called scientists, is perverted to give whatever results you want it to.

When it's winter in the Northern Hemispere, it's Summer in the Antarctic. It's natural for ice to melt in the Summer. The Antarctic is gaining ice, even at the edges.... Summer temperatures in the Antarctic interior only reach -30°C (-22°F) (with winter temperatures averaging -50°C (-58°F)), this is far too cold for warming to melt the interior ice. Most of the antarctic ice and snow rests on land and is not effected by ocean currents under them (such as at the Arctic). But the amount of ice on the Peninsula subject to melting under any gloom and doom IPCC scenario is very small. In fact recent studies show that the Antarctic was able to grow ice even when global temperatures were more than 10°C (18°F) warmer than today. With the vast majority of the Antarctic too cold to melt one really has to wonder what Mr. Pachauri was talking about. But beyond the obvious impossibility of the Antarctic melting it appears the whole study was merely an odd snapshot in time, the Antarctic is obviously gaining ice. The Antarctic Peninsula extends beyond the Antarctic Circle almost to South America and is naturally much warmer than the rest of the Antarctic. It has been theorized by the IPCC that the West Antarctic Ice Sheet (WAIS) could melt if global temperatures increased by just 2C. But ice core studies have proven this to be incorrect and have also proven that a "2°C warming of the globe would likely have little impact on the stability of the WAIS" What this latest study by the University of Bristol has shown is that some of the ice on the western coast that is over water may be melting due to a change in ocean currents (not necessarily due to any atmospheric warming). But what they aren't telling you is that ice on the eastern, northern and southern coasts, as well as the interior are all gaining ice in most areas. In fact the southern coast has gained substantial ice since recordings began in 1979. Where there were thousands of square miles of open water in 1979 there is now ice, some of it many meters thick. You can verify this for yourself from the satellite images at the National Snow and Ice Data Center (NSIDC) (University of Colorado Boulder, CO).

Global warming is certainly NOT a hoax.

The warming is not a hoax - humans as the cause is the hoax - to avoid the serious decisions needed if our civilisation is to survive it, without a huge number of deaths (? the real 6th Extinction?)
