As long as they are in cases, they can lay flat. But if they aren't, they will get scratched.

hey-store them on your computer-then anytime you want you can burn a new one----smile and enjoy the night

does it matter?

Well, they are upright at first until the kids touch them then they are flat.....so i guess both huh
-
Upright! I think they look neater for some reason :)

They can be stored flat as long as they're in their case. Vinyl records on the other hand...should be stored upright;)

How the hell would I know, I'm still trying to figure out how to use VHS and 8 track cassettes, damn these new fangled inventions...What next cell phones that can take pictures, cars that talk to you, what ever happened to 45 records?...lololol

Sure they can lay flat and be stacked on top of eachother, but then it is harder to get one out, and the stack can't be too high or the lower ones may get damaged. Some racks store them flat in slots so they're separated, but they can get dusty this way. Standing on their edge on a shelf is the best way to store them in my opinion.
