Why is chewing gum not allowed in schools?

Because people have a way of spitting it out and sticking it places it doesn't belong. No one should have to clean that up.

because kids tend to: chew like cows and it is disgusting to listen to stick it under their desks when they're done spit it on the campus grounds and people step in it

Because some brats spoiled it for everybody by not disposing their gum properly. Meaning they would stick it under desks, rails and other areas where someone's hand might rub against it.

Mostly because it causes a huge mess. Too many kids stick chewed gum under desks and chairs, or spit it out on the ground. Cleaning that up is a difficult, disgusting job, and nobody should have to clean up after slobs like that. Secondly, because some people chew loudly, smack their gum, pop their gum, and blow bubbles. The sound (and appearance) of that is very annoying and distracting in a classroom setting.

Would you want to be the one that has to clean up the mess when they stick it under the desks, or in the restroom stalls, or wherever else they decide to put it?

Because it is annoying to hear some of them popping their gum ( which drives me right up the wall ) or some chew like cows making all kinds of disgusting sounds. It's too bad they ruined it for those who know how to chew properly and how to throw their used gum in the trash and not wherever they decide to stick it.

alot of the times the gum ends up under desks and on carpart and some people chew their gum very loud and its annoying

I see the rules of some class rooms it say no gum chewing.

Because it looks awful from the teachers viewpoint to see all those mouths open and close, chewing, not paying attention. And then kids...and adults... never seem to be able to dispose of it in a decent matter. They stick it under somewhere or jut toss it in the trash instead of p0lacin git in a paper and then throwing it away.

gum, is amazing. i chew it everyday at school. so get over it. okay?! thanks. i love gum so much!!!! im chewing some right now at school. im doing a project on how students should be able to chew gum, if they use it the right way and keep it in there mouths. which i do. (: ohh and kids dont chew like cows okay?! we chew like we wanna chew. so get over the fact we like gum and we will chew it, until you pull it out of are mouths. kk. love you! (:

I agree with all the answers, it looks awful and it's a nightmare to clear up, but a study was done recently and it showed that those chewing gum and reading at school had a definate increase in performance and memory, its suppose to increase blood flow to the brain.....so where there is a negative....here is a positive :)

It's a ''Control thing''. They don't like to peel it off floors, walls and from underneath desks either.

I think that most teachers are pretty lenient. I know I had a teacher once who would let us chew gum until someone did put it under the desk and they wouldnt confess. That put the teacher in an akward situation but what else could she do? I do think that some teachers go overboard with it like I had a teacher make me write about 20 huge paragraphs on why I wasnt suppose to chew gum and I was a very good student. I thought that was lame. I think it just depends on who and where you are.

I was a custodian for a middle school while in high school. Kids stick gum in places I never knew existed. That is why in Grammar and middle schools, kids shouldn't be allowed to chew gum. In my high school, it was teacher's preference. It can be a distraction when someone sounds like a cow chewing on grass in the middle of class. So, if the teacher doesn't want you to chew gum, respect him/her enough to throw it out.

It's not allowed in schools, because kids stick it everywhere and make a mess. They even stick it under desks and tables. They drop it on the floor and people step in it. It is hard to get out if it's dropped on carpet. Elementary schools usually have a gum restriction since thats where all the little kids are.

i have been a school janitor so i know, it ends up on/under/in everything; from desks and chairs to blackboards to each other (the students) it's distracting in class and is used as projectiles.

The reasons can vary from school to school. It's probably banned for many of the same reasons why it's been banned from use anywhere in Singapore.

if iu was old and cranky i would say that its because you stick it under desks, but the truth is that it gets so annoying when you hear it pop all day.
