If consequences dictate a course of action, does that mean it's only wrong if you get caught?

We all have a set of morals, and unless youre mentally ill, we all know the difference between right and wrong. Whats wrong will always be wrong, but if we dont feel guilty for doing wrong, then we probably dont believe what we did was bad, and the only reason we avoided doing it in the past was because we saw that the consequences that would incur if we did said action, would be quite unpleasant. So basically, its wrong, but if you dont feel guilty, then obviously you didnt kill someone or you didnt realize the harm you've caused.

depends on where the action is taking you.. thats like saying.. if you steal to feed your starving children is it wrong. or was it wrong that you didnt get a job..ect.. i guess it depends on who you ask. personally i think LEGAL law and Moral law should be 2 different things.. people tend to look at legal law as the societal standard unfortunately.

Do you really believe that consequences dictate actions? Or is there a deeper, human pull toward action/behaviors. If you truly do, then is there actually anything as "wrong"? Believing that consequences are the only important aspect to action means that suffering or reward is all there is, not ethics. I'd just say that consequences aren't the only thing that dictate our actions and thank goodness.

If the actions that you take causes harm to another in anyway, rather you get caught or not it is still wrong. There are far too many different actions that you can choose that will not cause harm.

Yes. Right and wrong (in the context of morals) are subjective to your own personal opinion, they're not a universal constant. If you did something and it wasn't witnessed by other beings, whether it's 'right' or 'wrong' are subjective to what YOU think it was. If you think smoking lead shavings is right, then it's right. If you think it's wrong, it's wrong. So tl;dr- The limits of right and wrong are where you set them. Anyone telling you otherwise are simply attempting to force their own standards upon you.

No. Consequences don't dictate a course of action. There is always a choice. Your choice and actions dictate the consequence, though sometimes we don't know all the consequences involved when we make the choice, we usually know if what we did is right or wrong. And even if no one "catches you", you know what you did and your conscience should "catch you".

No. It means what you do depends on whether or not you will face consequences for your actions. In other words: it means that such a person is amoral (at least with regard to the particular course of action being evaluated) and does not differentiate between "right" and "wrong", but - rather - only between "consequences" and "no consequences".

Quite the contrary. If you weigh the possibility of "getting caught" before you commit a crime, then you know it's wrong, regardless.
