It varies phone to phone. My nokia 7250 can hold around 5mb's of pictures (assuming that the space isn't being used for extra games/utils etc etc) and each picture is 120k or so. You do the maths on that one ;) I'm pretty sure most cameras can store a great deal of pictures, more than you are ever likely to need on your phone at one time.

It all depends on your phone memory. Few phones support memory card which further increases your phone memory. Size of each picture depends on your phone camera.
