  • hide behind him lol, honestly i havnt got a clue i would probably do the worst thing possible and run off and scream
  • I LOVE Momma Bear she is kind and beautiful and i know she would not hurt us :)
  • We run like hell.
  • I guess if the bear was acting like it was going to harm someone I would try and distract the bear and have my family try and get away from the danger.
  • Crap myself.
  • Back off werry werry slowly says Elmer.
  • Well , you've heard the saying ' Does a bear Sh-ts in the woods' ? Well I'm sure thats what I'd be doing and very carefully - lol
  • Desperately try to remember - is it with black bears you cover your neck and curl into a ball and play dead, and with grizzlies you climb a tree, or the other way around? I've read that if you play dead one or the other species will proceed to eat you, causing severe pain, but I honestly can't remember.
  • I would get my pepper spray ready for action.
  • Unzip my jacket and hold it open to scare it away. Then in the future if I go there I would always make noise to make sure bears don't get close in the first place.
  • It had happened to me one night when on my own in the forest. It came up and sniffed my face.I looked at it and went back to sleep.I did nothing for I knew that bears rarely attack ,one out a million times,at most, and went back to sleep. The bear went away, and the same thing would happen if I see a bear in the wild again. One does not have to really do anything but keep still and and show that you are no threat to it,they are intelligent and will leave, for they are not ravenous beasts.
  • There's the old joke that the only thing you need in these cases is a better pair of running shoes than your partner so you can outrun the bear better than them:-) But what we actually do is, first thing, try to make ourselves very large and fierce. That's usually all that's needed. THey don't want to eat you. They are just out for a walk. Try to walk backwards from the bear. Many times you have just startled them and they just want to run away from you. If the bear doesn't seem more afraid of us than we are of him, and we have a back pack, we would open it up and give it to the bear and walk backward facing the bear. Never turn your back on a bear. Don't climb a tree if it's a black bear. THey are great climbers. Just come look at the side of our house where one bear climbed up to reach our bird feeders LOL!!! If it's a grizzly, you better be ready to drop and curl if need be. If he doesn't think you are a bigger bear and he isn't going to be decoyed by your pack, then you may need to drop to the ground, curl up and protect your neck. But no until you have really tried the "I'm the bigger bear" routine.
  • Extra loud air horn in one hand, pepperspray in the other hand, stand tall, yell loud, wave arms high, and advance towards the bear ... if the bear does not start running away, be prepared to blast both cans at once at a short/close range ... a bear that is deafend, blinded, and nasal burned, no longer poses a threat, as it can be dodged or out run. And it will probably never threaten any other human in the future.
  • You couldn't get me anywhere NEAR a forest, Rickster! Na-uh...
  • First I'll get my loved one out of its way if i can .. but one thing you do not do is turn your back on any wild animal .. if you do that it will know your prey and that will almost certainly be the end of that .. try to back away from it .. always facing it .. and try to get something between you and the animal ( tree .. big rock ) .. and it will be a good time to make a very quick prayer .. and if that don't work just play dead .. you might get a few scratches and bruises .. but the chances are good you will survive ..
  • After I've finished crapping my pants, we'd back away very, very slowly....
  • Well, I read an answer that AB-Rich gave on a similar question..he said signs were posted where he went camping that said you should not run away or turn your back to the bear..you should either stay still or back away very slowly, facing the bear..at least, if I remember it correctly, that's the preferred "plan"..whether or not in the real world I would remember to do that is another thing entirely! :)
  • 1) "There are several types of bear encounters: Casual, Defensive, Predatory - Casual Encounter Casual encounters are when there is little or no threat of an attack. In these instances the bear typically runs away. - Defensive Encounter/Attack Bears looking to protect a food cache or young can become aggressive. The presence of bear cubs almost ensures that the bear will act to protect its young. Defensive encounters can be handled by showing the bear that you are not a threat. - Predatory Encounter/Attack On rare occasions, bears will stalk people as prey. Bears who seem to be following you or sneaking around you are displaying predatory behaviour. " Source and further information: http://www.training.tree-planter.com/trainee/training/3/4.htm 2) "How to React to a Bear Attack Step #1 Don't panic! Easier said than done, but a bear can be startled or provoked by quick movements. Step #2 Don't make eye contact, this can be seen as threatening to the bear. Instead, lower your gaze and slowly back away. Assess the bear's reaction and determine which type of an encounter this might be. In the short run, a bear can outrun a racehorse. A bear can reach speeds of 50-60 km/h and can run both uphill and downhill with ease. " "Defensive Attack You goal is to not be seen as a threat to the bear. Shy away. Do not run. Move toward other nearby workers. Do not climb a tree. The black bear can follow you up a tree. Drop planting bags, daypack or anything else that may distract the bear." "Predatory Attack With Black Bears, playing dead is not a viable option. Sometimes a Black Bear will start chewing on its prey (you). Make noise. Stand your ground. Fight with you shovel if you have to." Source and further information: http://www.training.tree-planter.com/trainee/training/3/5.htm
  • Let the bear know that I did not fear it. And if its a mother bear protecting its young I would leave that area.......M.C.S.
  • Ask her to slowly walk backwards toward me and we would slowly walk out of the area. I would try not to kill the bear unless I had no choice.
  • Rickster's Back Yard :) (Click on Photos)
  • I'd be s^%$tting bricks along with my loved one.
  • cover my eyes... if i cant see it, it can't see me.... i hope... :$
  • Walk away and make noise. If it attacked, I would fight...and probably lose. If it were a grizzly attack, I would play dead...and probably end up dead.
  • I would kill it and then mount it on my fireplace.
  • I'd be surprised, because there aren't any in Australia. LOL
  • that happen to me a few times out hunting i just took a rock a threw it at a tree that confuse the bear!
  • I would stand as tall as I could and growl or yell or something, maybe grabbing my friend and trying to look big and scary. I might throw things at him but not try to hit him just scare him.
  • Ive heard you play dead but I dont know if I really want to act like Im dead. I would probably freak out and throw stuff at it, and get the Heck out of there..
  • I would do exactly what Mike Birbiglia would do.
  • Hey Boo-boo... I'd give him our pic-a-nic basket and RUN!
  • Throw him a role of Charmin?
  • I'd kill it make it into a coat and give it to my girlfriend.
  • Black Bears tend to avoid people so it'll probably take off before you even see it. If you do happen to come across a black bear than back away slowly because there may be cubs nearby. Grizzly's are another story. They are notorious for attacking people. Most Black bear attacks happen when people are feeding them or when a mother bear thinks you're threatening the safety of her cub.
  • Ask "my love one" to go for a run. In this situation I would probably run faster than him.
  • i just began to sing quietly as not to startle him. He turned and walked away.
  • I'd dial my emergency numbers: 45-70. I never go into bear country without them.
  • Ask him if its true, do bears really s*** in the woods?
  • Set it on fire with headbutts lol!
  • NORMALLY ITS THE ONE WHO STAYS QUITE THAT THE BEAR WILL IGNORE, WELL I WOULD JUST LET THE WIFE BE HERSELF, AND THE BEAR WILL DEAL WITH HER ,
  • Because you may not know if you are dealing with black bears or grizzly bears in the area, I suggest you read the following: In light of the rising of human/grizzly bear conflicts, the Alaska Department of Fish and Game is advising hikers, hunters, and fishermen to take extra precautions and keep alert of bears while in the field. "We advise outdoorsmen to wear noisy little bells on their clothing so as not to startle bears that aren't expecting them. We also advise outdoorsmen to carry pepper spray with them in case of an encounter with a bear. It is also a good idea to watch out for fresh signs of bear activity. Outdoorsmen should recognize the difference between black bear and grizzly bear scat: Black bear scat is smaller and contains lots of berries and squirrel fur. Grizzly bear scat has little bells in it and smells like pepper."
