  • If it is warm in the house he may be sitting there to cool off. He will not get injured by hanging out there.
  • Nah, my lil 2 yr old started doing the same thing. He's just exploring the house & found a new place to curl up & take a cat nap. He probably feels secure there because no one will bother him. Mine started doing that on my VCR-DVD player he found a nice lil area that he can fit & hide in. Also the top of my refridgerator, scared my hubby to death because when my hubby came out of our bedroom he didn't know he was there until he reached a paw out to swipe him, lol.
  • No, this is normal behaviour for Cats, although they don’t like swimming you will often catch them drinking water from a bath tub, toilet or a sink. He is perfectly normal, enjoy him...
  • No, my male cat sits in the tub for fun. He loves peeking around the shower curtain and playing with the water. BUT!!! If this change in behavior is accompanied by other symptoms, it could be time for a vet visit. Is he still eating and drinking well? Still sleeping on the same schedule? Make sure he isn't urinating more often and check for blood in the urine. When my female cat had a urinary tract infection, she sat in the tub to try to gain some relief from the pain.
  • i had a cat that liked to take a dump in the tub... that was really annoying.... my cats will visit the tub and sink out of curiousity... totally normal
  • I think they like the cool feel of the sink. I think he's just having some fun, exploring, and that he's just fine.
  • My cat likes to sit in the bathtub and the sink because even though she always has fresh water in her bowl she still likes the water that comes directly from the faucet. The tub drips sometimes so she normally goes there. But if she sees me in he kitchen she will jump up and wait for me to turn the sink on a little for her to drink. Even with her bowel of fresh water a few feet away. My vet said it has to do with the flowing sound it makes and a cats natural insticts to find water.
  • I have 3 cats - a 1 year old, 2 year old, and a 3 year old. They all like sitting in the sink and bathtub. Sometimes they even sleep in there.
  • I see the consensus is that there is no worries for this behavior. It's probably comfy and fun for them - you might try turning the water on at a trickle sometime just to see if he might also be sniffing around for a drink as well.
  • One of our cats does this too, it's pretty random. Not sure why he likes sitting in the tub but he does, and he'll hang out there a long time if you leave him alone.
  • For years now my cat has sat in the laundry sink. She's waiting for me to turn the tap on (just a dribble) & then she'll drink from the tap. Now she's started sleeping in the bathroom sink (but doesn't want the water on). I think she likes the shape of it.
  • Yes. Cats love to do the laundry at age 1 1/2 ...
  • naah! lots of cats do it. I have 2 of them who do it all the time (sink and tub). sometimes they are there to get a drink (even though I keep their water filled all the time!) and sometimes I think it's just a nice, cool place when it's warm weather. here's one of my cats, Sammy, who loves the sink and the tub (don't have any pictures of my other one who's favorite place is the bath tub).
  • my cat does this sometimes and basically she is trying to find some water for a drink. I have caught her licking the bottom of the bath or the taps. (Even though we have provided lots of water for her around the house) they just fancy something different sometimes. I wouldn't worry but as i say just make sure there is plenty of water around for them to drink anyway to prevent them becoming dehydrated or getting a urinary infection. :) www.our-happy-cat.com/cat-urinary-problems
  • Nah, cats are wierd. They all have their own little eccentricities -- that's why we love them! :P
  • Some cats love to play in water and drink running water. Turn on the tap slightly and see what happens. It is not a matter for concern. Remember--women and cats do what they will-men and dogs should just relax and get used to it.
  • I think it's a combination. My cats love jumping in the bath tub, one particularly likes curling up in the sink and drinking out of the plug hole and from the tap. They also have a mad curiosity with the water flushing in the loo! Weird little curiosities combined with a need for coolness, water and to enjoy the thud thud sound of the tub when they jump in it.
  • Cats like really fresh water. They can determine the freshness of what's in their bowl, and they know if the stuff dripping from the faucet has more oxygen. My cat used to do that, and she lived to be quite old, so I think you're okay, unless you've just used a chemical in them, then you need to seal them off.
  • my cat is about a year old also a male and he always sits in or on hard things such as plastic containers my hope chest ect. I think it's just a preferance though I would not be alarmed as long as he is not hurting you or your property
  • no, sounds normal
  • it is totally normal my cat sera 4 yrs old does it once one of my cats had kittens in the tub,so freaky she had kittens there...
  • nope.Mine does it,they like rounded stuff.Mine sllps in the bathroom sink sometimes and in my close basket and even in the bathtub.
  • No. Both of mine do it...one sits in the bathtub looking at the bathroom wall for quite a while...He has even started to try to flush the toilet and sit on it. I think he is trying to figure out what the big deal is with these things.
  • I have one cat who will sit in the bathroom sink or bathtub when she wants fresh water. She has learned over time where the water comes from, and that's just her way of letting me know that she wants some...
  • That's just about the normal way of cats. Many cats love napping in sinks and lounging around in tubs. It's always amazed me when you think about how they hate water:-)
  • No. Your cat simply notices that that place is where water comes from or appears. When He does check his water just in case he's trying to send you a message.
  • When we first got our cat he used to love to sleep in the bathtub or the sink. He'd always be in there! I'd be brushing my teeth, in the middle of it, and he would plop himself in there and i would have to spit into the toilet lol.
  • Check out www.catsinsinks.com. I think you'll find it's pretty normal!
  • I think it's normal too. When I had a cat she did that too.
  • The porcelain or metal is cool, and they will sit there to cool off. Not a big deal. He probably just discovered this recently and that's why he didn't do it till now. In this case, "curiosity COOLED the cat."
  • He Found A New Toliet. I've Never Seen A Cat Stand Around The Tub And Sink.
  • No. My cat does this a lot. I think she likes it because it is a cool temperature in the sink. She seems to be very content when she is sitting in the sink. Weird cat.
  • he is young and it does sound normal... but my dad's cat did the same thing and he ending up having a fever... among other issues. He was an older kitty though. Just make sure he is eating and drinking normal and that his bathroom habits look and seem normal. Just like humans... things do run in the gene pool... so just make sure he isnt wanting to much water or there could be and underlining issue. Hope that helps.
  • Nothing to worry about - unless you are in the tub at the time!
  • my cat does the same thing. It could mean they like the coolness of the porcelin( or whatever it is ). in my case It's mainly 'cause he likes to hide behind the shower curtain 'til I come sit on the toilet and then jumps out to scare me. And he sits in the sink 'till I come to fill it so he can drink from it. ( yes, he gets out first ) I think it also gives them comfort and security like crawling into a box or duffle bag to take a snooze
  • no, my cat does the same.
  • I think they just want to sit in somewhere slippery.
  • I wouldn't be concerned because i had a cat that lived unil it was 27! and i always slept and aid in the bathtub. I never had any idea what it meant. i once tried seeing if he wanted to take a bath and WOW. those scrathes hurt!!!!! i woud just ignore it all unti you see a veterinarian and then maybe ask them!
  • no not at all my cat does that all the time she even gets into the landry hapmer also just the other day my cat got in the bathroom sink it was a site to see!!!!!!!!
  • My 5 yr old minx does it to show me he wants to play behind the curtain. Takes drinks from a dripping faucet as well.
  • Maybe he is trying to give you a hint MOM I want a bath lol. but usually all they want is to drink the fresh water that drips down.
  • There may be no problem, but check to see if he is straining to pee (in the tub or not) or if his urine has blood in it. Cats will often seek a cool smooth surface when the have a urinary tract infections or urethral blockages in male cats.
  • No, not at all. Be grateful he chose an easily cleanable spot to sleep.
  • i dont think you should be concerned most of my cats i had have been doing that for a long time i think they just like the space.
  • No.My two cats do that often.
  • I have 3 male cats. They are always watching me take a shower and when I'm done they will sit and sleep in the tub. I always thought they were just idiots..good to know that they arent the only ones.
  • It's normal behavior for a cat, especially in warm weather. Also, if you have a shower curtain in your tub area the cat thinks he's enjoying a bit of privacy.
  • All cats sit in stupid places my cat sits in the sink
  • I don't think it's a problem. A lot of cat love sitting in close baskets, boxes, bathtubs, and my friends cat even likes to sit in the sink. As long as his eating, drinking, and sleeping habits hasn’t changed then I wouldn’t worry about it.
  • NO ITS PROBLEY COOLER, SINCE THEY HAVE A FUR COAT IN ALL KINDS OF WEATHER. ONE OF MINE COMES UP ON THE DRYER TO BE SCRATCHED BY ME WHEN I'M IN THERE.
  • No need to be concerned. I often find my orange male in the laundry tub. He's not the brightest bulb on the tree but he's healthy.
  • My cats have always eventually found their way into the tub or sink & just sat there looking at nothing. My oldest (fixed) male wont drink out of the cat fountain like my other 2 will, he has to have a glass bowl in the tub to drink out of. lol! I change the water dish a dozen times a day! but it makes him happy, he drinks good, & that's all that matters to me. However, any sudden and/or unusual behavior(s) from a cat is worth observing, to make sure they're not trying to tell you they dont feel well. they will do something they dont normally do to get your attention. and cat's are very good at hiding illness.
  • Cats will often do that because the bathtub and sink is cool. No reason for concern.
  • it could be nothing, but if he is drinking more you may want to mension it to your vet on the next visit there are some problem that might be starting early like, diabetic kidney problems just keep an eye on it
  • sounds normal maybe he's just a little too warm to stay elsewhere :-)
  • My cat used to sit in the bathtub at my old house for some reason and the faucet would drip and it would get his head wet. I think he would sometimes drink from it, or just to clean the top of his head. You cat may just like laying in the sink and tub because he thinks it's comfortable or it's just fun for them. Nothing to worry about, really.
  • It depends. If you are sure that he is only sitting in the tub and/or sink there is nothing to be worried about. Cats like the feel of the cool porcelain. However you need to check and make sure if he is also peeing in the tub or sink. If you find evidence of that then you must take him to a vet immediately. Many cats who develop crystals in their urine (mostly males) will seek out a cold hard place because it helps with the pain when they pee. Don't ask me to explain that I don't know why but they do. Since he is a male, please watch him closely when he goes to the bathroom. If there is any evidence of him straining or pink in his urine you must get him to a vet immediately. That would mean he has crystals which are extremely painful and in a male can kill them within hours if not treated. Good luck I hope your kitty is just looking for some place cool to lie down.
  • Nopez, seems fine :). My cat started doing that at around 2 now. He now has a strong fascination for bubbles.
  • My male cat started going in the bathtub at about 2 years old and even urinated in there a few times. I found out later (after he was so sick he almost died) that he had crystals in his urine and a blocked urethra and was sitting in there because it felt good. I would keep an eye on his litter box and feel his bladder to make sure it's not hard. It's probably not this, but I felt so bad last time that I almost let him die because I didn't know what to look for.
  • Absolutely not! My cat has loved sitting in sinks and bathtubs since day 1. There is nothing wrong with that.
