In most cases, synthetic will be better. It doesn't break down at high temperatures, so it helps your engine last longer. It is definitely worth the extra money.

Synthetic oil also moves faster in the oil lines when you start your engine. Upon starting, all your oil is in the pan, and needs to be pumped into the cylinders. During the first few cranks when you turn your key, the moving parts grind until the oil is "moving". Synthetic oil gets to the cylinders faster than natural, thus preventing wear.

For many cars, synthetic is better as it is more resistant to thermal breakdown and it generally lubricates better for longer. However, in high-mileage engines like mine (VW Golf; ~221K miles), synthetic oil is more likely to slip past the worn piston rings and valve guides than "natural" oil.

Synthetic, synthetic, synthetic. Synthetic is better than conventional oil in all aspects except price. As mentioned before, check your owners manual to make sure synthetic oil is compatible (or even available) for your auto (some models of Mazda for example discourage the use of synthetic oil). Full synthetic (synthetic blends are a waste of money) oil circulates better, is great for cold weather starts, has a shear strength (resistance to breakdown from moving parts and pressure) thousands of times greater than coventional mineral oil and provides better lubricity. If you plan on keeping your car for a long time, absolutely go synthetic. The extra cost will be well worth it later in the life of the engine.

That would depend on what type vehicle you own. Generally later model cars yes, but if you own an aircooled VW dino oil is better. Its been proven that dino oil moves the heat away from those engines better than synthetic oil. Synthetic doesn't cling to the parts in these engines the same way dino oil does, therefore not allowing it to bring the temps down. Also some of the performance cams used in the air-cooled engines specifically require dino oil, example would be Web Cams they advise not to use synthetic with their cams.

When Synthetic oil was not popular I was using it in my air cooled vw engines, the oil protects agenst the cold-starting problems that regular oil experiences with the parts being dry. Synthetic oil leaves a film and over time makes the bearings and piston rings last up to twice as long, many new cars require synthetic oil for warrenty reasons so check you owners manual.

This question would depend on the type of car you have. Personally, I have an 01 Mitsubishi Magna VR-X (diamante) and I used to use conventional motor oil and switched to synthetic thinking it would make it feel better but since I have done that my car has been having problems.

There is no one oil better than the next (within the realm of all quality oils that is) The advantage to synthetic, is it's cold and hot weather behaviour. WHICH, by the way, I might add, that 99% of you NEVER put your car's thru, so it doesn't matter anyways. Unless you put your car thru extreme use, in places like alaska during the winter, or iraq in the summer, you're wasting your time with the synthetic oil, that costs sometimes up to 3 TIMES that of the comparable dino type. As long as you use a good filter, and good oil, and stay on your recommended change intervals, dino will be JUST FINE in your car. Period.

Synthetic has particles of teflon plastic in it, it is not recommended by any manufacturer that i know, and i've worked on engines for 35 years and will say it's just crap for people that don't want to change their oil. It's like people who use "Stabil" to make their gas last if sitting for awhile, that's the best stuff to destroy a carburetor. So i recommend using standard oil and change as required or even sooner. For the cost of a rebuild, a few extra dollars in an oil change will make your engine last a long time.

Once you go synthetic, never go back. Forget blends, and skip Castrol. Go straight to Mobil. There are custom ways to have it made as well. But, your best bet to keep the engine running for 15-20 years longer with normal wear and tear, as well as repairs, is to use the best synthetic oil available. The molecules don't change in size, they are all uniform. Therefore, synthetic oil is created through a process of reduction to similar molecular sizes. The word process means synthetic, in this case. In regular oil, the molecules bounce together and clump together, creating friction as well as blockage. But the main importance is the difference between cleanliness. Your normal oil will actually break away small slivers of metal within the engine, with just normal wear and tear. That is why is has to be changed so frequently. I go with 15k synthetic by mobil and change it every 10k. Engines love it. Great way to reduce heat.

I only ever cook with virgin or sesame seed oil.....willing to try something new mind.....
