Here we go again , In the 80's plenty of old tossers used to say the music of the 60's was the best. I never liked Phil Collins much. What ever generation you are your probably going to say the music that played when you were young partying was the best because you've heard it a 1000 times before and you know all the words.

I would call music from the 1980s being among other great eras. I like a wide range of music from different eras although I was born in the 1980s. I spent my childhood listening to music from the 1980s which I enjoy but later on in my teenage years I explored different music styles of different eras most of which are enjoyable but each to their own.

From the perspective of someone who enjoys Rock 'n' Roll, there's been very good music in every rock decade. * And of course tastes differ. For example: I've never liked Phil Collins' solo stuff (but - oddly - like some of Genesis). And please don't feel slighted. I've always been very picky about my music. Most of what gets on the radio I would never spend money to buy (or have spent, back in the days of 45s and cassette tapes and CDs). * And even though it's "before my time", I find several really enjoyable Rock songs from the 50s. * And a final thought: how much modern pop/rock have you listened to in the last 30 years? If you're like me, you pretty much stopped listening to the radio once you amassed a large collection of music that you really, really like. So (if you're like me), you might be overlooking the 90s, 2000s and 2010s simply because you have such a satisfying collection of music that predates that period. * But good music - really good music - still comes out from time to time. One of my favorites is "Follow" from Crystal Fighters (dates to 2010, weird video, but what a great sound!) * And there's other stuff, stuff not Rock. For example: Ragtime and Classical. * No, I wouldn't say the 80s was "the best era of music". But there was some really good Rock music that came out of the 80s. * What do I like from the 80s? Let's see: Suicidal Blond (INXS), Another One Bites the Dust (Queen - yes, I admit it, I like it, though it's not a favorite), Money for Nuthin (Dire Straits - that whole album was pretty good), Poor Man's Son (Survivor), Freeze Frame (J Geils), Owner of a Lonely Heart (Yes; another really good album), Sunday Bloody Sunday (U2 - they had several good songs but then changed their style for the very much worse IMO, at which point they became very popular). Refugee (Tom Petty, one of his best), etc. etc.

It was certainly better than the "disco days" that preceded the 80's. IMHO 4/18/25

There were several good music eras. The Big Band era of the 1930s and 40s was great. The 50s and early 60s was a great time with Elvis, Fats, and several others. The 60s was the best for country music. To me, the 80s were the beginning of radicle music with much rebellion, it has only gotten worse since then. I have lived through each of those eras.

I saw an article about Spotify that a Gen-Zers are listening to almost as much 80s music as contemporary music. Not a surprise.
