  • Originally, they used peach baskets. The referee would have to climb a ladder to retrieve the ball after each score. It was a little bit of a disaster for the pacing of the game. One day, during a game at a school, a point was scored and the ball burst through the bottom of the basket. The referee didn't have an extra basket, and the spectators and referees loved that they didn't have to stop the game. Soon after, metal hoops were substituted for durability reasons, and the referees suggested adding a net to visually see if the ball went through the center of the hoop or not.

  • What I found out, Dr. James Naismith himself, the inventor of basketball mentioned in a radio interview that he had an idea. He called the boys to the gym. Divided them into teams of 9, gave them an old soccer ball ⚽ and he showed them 2 peach baskets nailed up at each end of the gym. LOL 😂 https://youtu.be/ESViBLNs_y8?si=DanXKTvqrLRPi9Sy

Did you know Dr. Naismith designed the game of basketball from the Canadian child's game of "Frog on a Rock"?

  • The reason is basketball sounds better than netted hop. Plus it would very quite expensive to redo the name. Speaking of names The NBA is really international since the Toranto CA Raptors is one of the teams. Same reason no name change, way to expensive. End of profound notes. LOL.
